Let us know how it turns out.

The hitch has its own pump separate from the steering, as stated its normal for the arms to flop up and down like that. The ps pump also operates the pto clutch, new pump is about a grand if I recall. There is a angle gear box under the dash that may have blown apart or the rag joint is torn up at the power steering head.
The tractor is hard to get parts for, only made for several years and doesn't share a lot of parts with other models, some engine stuff is near impossible to get.
We had a gas version (super90) that I needed to hand fabricate a exhaust manifold for, impossible to find.

As per my previous post, we haven't got it running yet. Waiting on a starter solenoid to come in. If and when we get it running, we can go on. The angle gear box under the dash is definitely not working. the wheel will spin, shaft turns down to the box, but no output. If it runs, that'll probably be the next problem we attack. It's still on the trailer, would be kinda nice to be able to steer if it runs an we can back it off under it's own power. I'm not going to unload it until I make sure it's not junk. As it sets, it's a short trip to the salvage yard it it's no good.

Lift covers can crack due to stuck relief valve. Check condition of oil and relief valve before you raise 3 pt all the way up. If quadrant is out of adjustment and relief valve stuck you could break lift cover housing again. There should be a stopper on position control before it goes into constant pumping.

Thanks - I'll make sure the controls are all the way down until we get things sorted out a little.

ps.. on the lift piston issue. you surmised there was no piston in there since you could lift the arms. Just so you know, the connection from the rockshaft the upper arms are mounted on is not a solid connection to the floating piston..

Obviously this is a complicated tractor. I know I need some books, but looking around on the net, there are quite a few, and they are expensive. Just which ones do I need? Still waiting on the solenoid, so haven't done much yet.

Finding a knowledgeable Massey Ferguson parts guy would be a big help, some of the parts you may need maybe also found on older Massey Ferguson, Massey Harris, and Ferguson tractors (maybe some parts can be found on newer tractors). I'd get it running first, and find out what does, and doesn't work before getting a manual. If the engine runs good, but the rest of it needs too much work you maybe able to find someone who needs a parts tractor. You could probably get more money out of if it that way rather than just running over the scales at the junk yard. Also if the engine runs good but the rest needs too much work, pull the engine, junk the rest, or take the rest of it apart sell the parts that are still good, and junk the parts that aren't good. It depends on how much space you have for storage, and or how much you want to mess with it. If it was me I'd try selling it as a parts tractor, or parting it out before scrapping it. There could be some people that have 85's watching this, and licking their chops for parts if this one turns out to be too much for you to fix.

Finally got the solenoid in for the starter, and got everything rolling over, but haven't got any fuel to the injectors. Had ordered a CD copy of the IT svc manual, and it came in today, so went there to see the proper procedure for bleeding the system. That informs me that there is supposed to be an electric fuel pump between the gas tank and the primary filter. We don't have one. Did all model 85's have an electric fuel pump? A universal fuel pump wouldn't be hard to rig up. How much fuel pressure is needed? How much flow?

if i ws adding a charge pump to just get fuel TO the IP{.. i'd use a universal adjustable fuel (gas) pump like napa nad others sell. usually adjustable 2-4 psi.

all you want to do is get fuel to the IP
