Buying Advice how do you verify a good tractor found online

So, you've thought about the transport, I assume? Factored that in, I also assume.

Generally, you can't go wrong w/ a 790. I was a Deere dealer for years so know them pretty well. Best tractor they offered. It looks like this one has been used for a 3 pt. mower or cutter. Note the pto (from implement) safety chain hanging
from the left side of the 3pt.. I would say you're pretty safe, what really could be wrong w/ it? Nothing, it obviously hasn't been abused. It still has the pin in the 3rd link. That's unusual. If you find out the SN, you can have a dealer look it up, find out warr. history and even get the name & # of the previous owner. Call him.

Yes, insurance is supposed to cover the freight, but I will be contacting them once I have the estimate. We shall see what they say then....

We were expecting a hurricane recently, so I moved my pickup into my work building, to protect it from falling trees. My son wondered why since if it were hit the insurance would cover everything, will tell him the pit falls and hopefully he listens.

Frank, make sure the hour meter works - 110 hours is awful low.

I bought a 955 two years ago with 350 hours. Drove 6 hours each way to pick it up. Came home, ran it for an hour, found the meter didn't work so I had no idea how much time it actually had on it. Could have been 3000 for all I knew. It went back, another 12-hour round trip.

I, myself, would check everything out personally aided by a local mechanic familiar with the model. Stating that, the tractor would have to be local for me to even begin the process of buying the tractor. :tractor:

Not necessarily...when I bought my 790 in 2004, it had 24 hours on the meter. That machine was about 18 months old when I bought it. Great tractor!! Some folks buy 'em...just don't use 'em.

FrankX...although that 790 looks really nice, by the time you have it transported (figure $1.00-$1.50 per loaded mile) and if you intend to add a loader, I expect you can find something closer to home for as good or better price.
