My garden is a mess of dead plants. All I'm picking right now is okra and peppers. But then I did decide to take the month off. That said, I did up-pot five Tommy Toe and five Pruden's Purple tomato plants yesterday.

In May, and June, my garden looks like this,,,

GardenMay182014c_zpsbc86ae5a.jpg

Late August? with the excess rain we had this year? the weeds are crazy thick/tall.

No tiller could control those weeds,,, but, the mower flattened them!!

I had to mow in third gear, low range with my JD 650,,,

The tractor has plenty of power to mow faster, it just took LOTS of time for all the vegetation to exit the mower,,,

I felt like I was running a silage chopper!! It was fun!!

I have corn and peas that need bush hogging. I need to get up the soakers first though.

Well I harvested off the bulk of my Celebrity (18 plants) and La Roma (12 plants) for sauce and it totaled around 100lbs and so yesterday processed them all into the freezer. Cukes are pretty much done. Made up another round of pickles this morning and jarred another round of mixed hot peppers jalapeno wax and cherry.

Still have some beans and the seed pole beans for the seed saver club are getting mature now.

Had a super heavy harvest on the Cubanelle peppers (12 plants) and 18 green bell's (there was 3 varieties 6 plants of each on those) all over the last 10-14 days things and really took off after the rain finally came including my lawn but they have been producing decent right along. Same with the eggplant. A second big set on those 18 Harris Classic eggplants are all ready too pick once again too. Still have a few in fridge too. Took the last of the Cousa squash and some green zukes this week.

The Old German, Brandywines plus 2 Juliets are still out there growing too along 2 sweet100's and a Sungold (those last 3 I gave up picking long ago :confused2: ) .

I have had enough of it all this season :D

Weather is supposed to cool down some this coming weekend...cant wait!

I tested my 2016 saved seed for germination and ended up with some plants that looked ready for the soil. Seeds for tomatoes on left were planted August 3rd. The little ones on the right were planted August 15.

So, to give them a little help in this HOT August sun, I have installed a "shade" over my little pier. In the next picture you can see the green tarp over the pier garden.

3 blocks @ 4 rows each block of Ambrosia Bi-color Sweet Corn. I grow organic with no chemicals of any kind, just cow poo and straw tilled in and Lady Bugs and Praying Mantis for pest control. Was told to expect one ear per stalk, but I had two and sometime three. Great harvest on first two blocks and will selective pick third block for local Farmers Market,IMG_20160713_170424548.jpg beginning tomorrow. Made great profits and filled our freezer!

Done canning and freezing green beans, household use and sharing now, have to find a new spot next year for beans, seem to have some sort of virus similar to pea wilt starting. We have been harvesting corn for about 2.5 weeks now, three varieties all super sweet. Put up about two gallons of frozen kernels yesterday, will do more tomorrow. Picked about 225 lbs of pears last week. Had to borrow refrigerator space from friends for part of the types that need 30 days of chilling before they will ripen. Canned the first round of Bartlett pears today, first of the fifty lbs or so of them.
My wife had knee surgery in the middle of July, so something had to give, I will put my weed crop up against anybody's at this time:laughing:. It will be rototiller and brush hog time soon:D

It is great you guys are still getting a harvest. I'm going to be doing some fall planting soon. As proud as I was of my buried soakers, now I'm dreading trying to pull them loose from all the roots that have grown around them. It's got to be done before I can disc.
