How effective is a Box Blade for Snow Removal?

That and a loader is all I ever use. I do use the hydraulic top link to shake out the snow if it gets trapped in the box. That only happens if the snow is really wet. Is it the best tool?.....idk but it works fine for me

I posted earlier that the box blade didn't work for me as the snow packed into the box and I had to use a shovel to break it out, that's the problem out here on the west coast, most of our snow is wet and packs. If it were powder snow I could see it empting out of the box blade much easier.

Snow sticks in mine a little bit too, but I tap the cut brake real quick and bang the blade to the side, and that usually does the trick. After reading this thread, I may try the straight blade this year

Box blade works great for me. I plow mine, and a number of my neighbors driveways in my neighborhood and have always had good luck. The biggest tips are to shorten the top link for hard surfaces such as concrete and asphalt. Lengthen it for gravel. I've found I can scrape a drive and leave about 1/2" of snow on top on gravel so I'm not having to rake the grass where I put the snow piles later in the year.

I do the opposite. I run HD snowblower skid shoes on the front of my box blade in the winter. Then I shorten the top link for more clearance under the blade when on loose surfaces. This allows me to used the box in both directions without pulling up grass / gravel.

Also if I have any issues with snow sticking in the box, I just open the release valve on the 3 pt and let the box drop and that solves the problem.

I've used / have both and for my situation, I prefer the box over the blade as I don't have to get off to change the angle and I can put the snow where I want without spillage.
