Kubota B7800
Gentlemen,

I just finished doing the 300 hr. tune on the B7800, and I have a question. Before I ask the question though, let me fill in some details. After replacing the hydro filter and the tranny filter and cleaning the strainer, I refilled with super UDT fluid and brought the level up to the top line of the acceptable range on the dipstick. This is the first time I have had the UDT fluid to this level. When I first bought the tractor the level showed to be about a third up between the low and high marks on the dipstick. I subsequently kept the level at about that same point. Also, since I've been running in pretty dusty, dirty, wet conditions since I last tuned, I decided to change everything. All filters and fluids were replaced with all new 'Bota products.

After finishing, I took the tractor out for a little spin to make sure nothing was going to catch fire. While everything seems to be working okay (good hydro pressure, clean starting, etc), I got the feeling like the forward speed was a little less than usual using my normal settings (mid range, 2K rpm). Of course this is subjective since we don't get speedos.

So here's the question. Could the transfer of power to the wheels be affected by too much fluid, even though the level is within the Kubota specs? As I said, I've never had it to the max line before. If not, can anyone think of a possible reason why I'm having this nagging feeling that the tractor if off just a tick? And to head off the obvious, let me say that I didn't have a beer until AFTER the test drive!

Ron:

That's what I was thinking too. I would assume that we are all guilty of the leaving the brake on syndrome from time to time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry guys, I learned that lesson a while ago. Down around the 1-50 hr mark I was still guilty of this, but it's been a long time since I've used the parking brake. The usual routine is to use the FEL as an anchor. I have to admit though, I did check just to be sure. Does this mean that you guys don't think it could be my theory that full is too full?

You will find that SUDT will make your HST have a different sound. I would not worry about it being a little high on the dipstick.

Thanks Ron. I don't know if it's a plus or a minus, but I've always been pretty sensitive to how things "feel". Probably too sensitive. Always makes me crazy when I think there's a new hum, or rasp, or change, or...you get the idea. I'll be putting the old girl back into service tomorrow if all the rain we've been having doesn't sink me up to the hubs in Georgia muck!

I might be venturing out on a limb but, I think that both Ron and I lost our sensitivity to "feel" along with our youth. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Daryl,

State of mind! When I was 24 I just knew that when I reached 44 I'd be old! Now that I'm 44, I'm thinking maybe when I'm 64 I'll be old. 44, things are just getting good! Course, if you guys are in your 90's please accept my apologies...YOU'RE OLD! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think a lot of the time that people in general pay more attention to something after it has been worked on. And just because it has been... they notice things that they never noticed before. I am guilty of this also. As long as the level is in the acceptable range.. you should be fine.
