How high is your corn?

PMA, may be just the picture but your corn looks more brown than green. Been dry there?
I think the Tennessee corn might even have a few inches on the PA corn.
Now someone has to report in from Iowa...

what struck me looking at this tall corn was how much stalk and leaves there was compared to corn. What is all that plant material other than the cob used for? Is that silage? You can tell I'm not a "real" farmer...:confused3:

We took this picture about 3 weeks ago - the corn is about has high as I've ever seen it - up to 10 ft tall. We've had a lot of rain this year. It makes up for the drought conditions we had last year.

We don't do anything with the plant material other than the cob - but if there's another use I'm on board!

PMA, you seem to be harvesting a little early - did you get planted early this year?

No it's the variety of corn, some come in quicker than others, don't cut corn to green to much moisture. Having to dry this corn, coming out the field around 20% and drying to 15%. The rest of the product is thrown through the combine. They got great corn here. This is non irrigated land we did today. Had to quit because dryer couldn't keep up and the bins feeding the dryer is full.

I am just helping my friend out, this is not my corn. Usually start earlier, but the wet and cool summer has made harvesting about 2 weeks behind.

That is some tall corn. Around here we have very little field corn. What there is - 100% of the entire plant is cut & chopped into silage. The sweet corn here is 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall.

Yes the field corn is TALL. My sweet corn in my garden is much smaller ... around 5 to 6 ft.

That is pretty dry land corn. The southeast GA corn looks really good also. All mine is dry land and in the 9 foot range. I beleive mine will be in 150 range, I wish we could have gotten our second application of nitrogen out. Most of mine is going in the bin to be used for feed so we will let it dry down some in the field.

The irrigated corn in our area is also pulled at high moisture and dried down so it can be double cropped with soybeans. Due to wet weather no one has been able to start yet (that I have heard about) but I 'm sure it will be in 250 to 300 range.

In a normal year we could give you a run for the money but we haven't had much rain since the beginning of July. About 1.1" is all I have found in my rain gauge. The one storm we got 7 tenths but wind blew a lot of it over just as it was tasseling and ready to pollinate.

If you want a tall corn story, go to Washington, Iowa where the world record of 31' & 7/8" was grown.

We have farmers here that are planting corn after corn under irrigation. As soon as first corn is harvested, they plant the second crop of corn.

The second crop must be for silage.
