How hot is it?

Predicted low to mid 90s all week, with low humidity, and smoke from the fire in the Siskiyou NF. I got another cord of oak last week, and can smell it outgassing. Calculating from tables, my 5.5 cords of firewood will lose about 600 gallons of water that I won't have to boil up the chimney. 90 degrees with humidity in the teens beats building a kiln to dry my firewood. As long as the weather's ugly, I may as well put it to use.

Only problem I have continually is getting the firewood to dry. Had some Oak last winter that only had 14% moisture content after 18 months. Some of my Red Fir was at 10% by the meter.
So I check the wood and get it inside out of the wind and sun when it get below 20% now.

The temps in my house are running about 2-3 degrees above where my thermostat is set between around 1pm until around 8pm.

I've had that problem with maple, but maple is pretty marginal firewood. I have never had a problem with madrone or oak. I only use fir and pine for a fire starter, so the drier the better.

Surprised to hear on the evening news 90% of the U.S. has A/C while 10% of Europe which is also experiencing record heat.

It wasnt all that long ago I remember in the late 70’s auto A/C and automatic transmissions were really only found on high end cars with many Europeans shunning A/C altogether and then the whole climate change thing with refrigerants…

I’m guessing new markets for A/C are emerging across Europe…

Still in the old California neighborhood A/C is very rare…

California and Italy I find very similar and Seattle reminds me of Austria less the salt water...

Temperatures have moderated the past 3 days and have been 5 or more degrees below the forecast. The next 8 days are supposed to be in the mid 80s to low 90s and then back to the 100s or better.
The hygrometer in the chart reads about ten to fifteen points high. It is located about 16 feet in the air, but I also have one located in the garden in permanent shade and it always seems more accurate. I have 6 remotes and when placed together, they are all within one or two percentage points.
It's an Ambient system and it works great except for the hygrometer in the main array. I'm thinking of getting a new array as it's getting to be 4 or five years old.
