:D yeah, I also completely agree your thoughts and ideas, that is really reasonable.

Buy a package of 1 ohm 10w power resistors for a couple bucks ( 271-131 is the radio shack part # for a 2-pack ) and series them to make a 2 ohm / 20w resistor, and connect it from the blinker 'out' terminal, and then to ground, on the old mechanical blinker. Also connect your led lamps to that same terminal, and then ground. The 2 ohm load will look like incandescent lamp to your old style blinker module, and it will provide the current drawn to heat the metalic strip and break the circuit. the led lamps will then blink on and off..

I decided that since you were right before about why the LED won't flash, you were probably right about this one too. I followed your suggestion to the letter and voila...Flashing lights. I may try it in a few weeks with only one of the resistors since the on cycle of the flash is really brief, but for now I'm done with this somewhat protracted project.

Now I've got rear work lights and flashers to help me get safely from one neighboor's house to another.

So since there's no place to go...Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Actually.. if the 'ON' cycle is really brief. then -ADD- resistors. Perhaps even jump to a 5-ohm resistor.. if that is still too brief.. try a 10 ohm resistor... Probably wouldn't need a 10.. 3 ohms may do it.. perhaps 4 ohms..maybee 5 ohms may do it.. or some combination .. 5 ohm plus 1 ohm.. etc.. Just whatever the blinker module wattage was set for. HD blinker modules are made to handle a heavier wattage load..e tc, and blink slower on a regular load.. regular duty mods blink faster on high watage loads. Your setup with the led and 2 ohm resistor is seen as a high wattage load.. go ahead and ADD resistance .. I.E. 3-4-5 ohms.. try it.. see which one works the best for proper 'on' time for you.

If you ever do this project again.. email me and I'll show you a super quick way to make a bulletproof blinker out of a 12v led module from either a mechanical blinker line.. or from a straight 12v powered line using 3 components you can buy at radioshack... ( or you can simply buy the led blinker module.. etc.. ).. I'm an electronics guy.. so i always tinker.. etc..

( summary.. either pick up another pack of 2- 1ohm resistors, or pick up a single 5 ohm.. if no 5ohm available.. get the 2-1 ohm resisotrs and addthem in series to the 2 you currently have in line. this will double the inline resistance, and increase the 'on-state- time of the blinker )
