How long can diesel be stored?

Seems like assuming complete mixing you have 62.5 gal of two year old diesel mixed with 62.5 gal of one year old and 125 gallons of fresh. Is this like a high school quiz? LOL

oh no. i am dead serious. my point is that no one ever addresses such rolling or mixed ages of fuel when talking about when diesel fuel or any other fuel will go bad. and yet reality is that few storage tanks are ever taken down to zero gallons before being refilled again. i certainly don't have any answer here mind you. like so many politicians, i just like to raise issues and point fingers. real solutions and answers are someone else's responsibility.

Just searched it SAR-GEL

SAR-GEL is what I have at home. Alway's seems to work well for me

I got the indicator grease from a local fuel distrubtor. I would think almost all distributors would have some type of way they can check for water in tanks. He gave me a small amount on some paper and warned me not to let it get wet or it would all turn red. Duh...........I think thats how it is supposed to work. I just smeared a small amount on my wooden measuring stick and stuck the tank.

I searched locally for SAR-GEL ... Tractor Supply does not carry, had not heard of it... I gave them the pointer and they are going to look into it... no local auto supply has SAR-GEL.

Think we have done around 40K plus gallons so far with it, so many things depend upon your frame of reference.

Texas John, find your local fuel distributor, or ask a guy delivering fuel at a gas station.

You may have a great TSC, but mine would be like a hog staring at a wristwatch if I tried to get something that was not on their shelf. 3000 psi hydraulic gauge comes to mind from a week or two ago.

You and me both. and here is the part that confuses me more than anything else. suppose you buy a 250 gallon tank and have it filled on day one. then you use 125 gallons the first year and have it refilled. then you use 125 gallons the second year and have it refilled again.

1*question: after that second refill at 2 years and one day after buying the tank, how the heck old is your diesel fuel??????Theo

1*I have that all figured out.
I have a 30 gallon drum for the main tank and a 55 gallon drum for a reserve tank on my fuel storage set up.
I filled up the 55 gallon drum only with my first 55 gallon delivery of off road .
Then I filled the 30 gallon drum from the 55 gallon one leaving 25 gallon in the 55 gallon drum.
When I use up the 30 gallon in the 30 gallon drum I will pump the 25 gallon that was left in the 55 gallon drum into the 30 gallon drum and have the fuel guy stop by and fill up the 55 gallon drum.
This way I will never be mixing old fuel in with the new fuel and I will always have a 25 gallon supply in reserve while waiting for the delivery man to arrive .
