How long to dig a 30'x50'x8' ish deep hole?

Have you given any thoughts to using a crawler loader or a dozer to dig your hole? With either you could push the dirt into the low spot, then fill hole with the garbage, bring back what dirt you need to fill in hole. This would eliminate a lot of dirt handling.

I'm sorry but I don't follow how that would eliminate any handling. Dirt has to come out, stuff has to go back in. The way I see it, the difference is if the dirt gets picked up or pushed. The same amount still gets moved.

With an excavator you dig it, pile it up, then have to move it again, maybe 2-3 times. Whereas with a dozer you push it out, as into the low spot, then push it back to the hole you dug. The low spot is filled in and the hole to, a lot less time spent. So, now the difference is how many times you handle the dirt.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention a dozer.

I think the first thing you need to do is qualify the size and type of material as being; clean fill, construction material or toxic waste. Digging a hole might get you into the water table and being on an Ottawa area farm, I'm going to guess you drink well water. It's in your best interest to separate the larger pieces of concrete from the compostable material and clean fill, and then get creative with some sort of a landscaping plan. Just digging a big hole and covering it all up might be creating a long term problem.

:| sorry, that's the best I can do without seeing the site and the material you want to make disappear.
If it was mine. I'd probably pile it up in a huge pile with the concrete on top and then ride my motorcycles over it.

There is also the option of renting a concrete pulverizer, if one is available locally. I have a company near me that specializes in demolition equipment. More than several farmers have rented one of their machines to crush concrete from poured silos, and feed lots that were former dairy operations. It will crush it into material similar to 304 limestone base material, ie: 4", to dust. Long pieces of rebar in the concrete was trimmed off with a torch, or chop saw. What was left in the pieces was sorted out by the machine. The material was then used to dress up many of the field drives they have, and still had plenty left over which they sold to other locals.

Here is the link to the company, it's name is Company Wrench. Rental Rates You'll need to scroll down a ways to see the rates for the 3 pulverizing machines. Biggest problem would be getting it down to the size, to feed into the machine, but they have something to do that with too. At least with this, you could recoup some of the cost, if you don't have a use for the crushed material, and sell the steel for scrap as mentioned.

Just some food for thought.

I hadn't thought about crushing the concrete but there's only 50-60 yards of it at most. I can't imagine that it's worth it for that little bit. For a large scale project, well worth looking into

Sorry... From the size of the hole, sounded like a lot more.

No worries, no doubt a good option for some.

The size of the hole is roughly double what I have to go in it. 50-60 yd of old concrete and rock, 100-120 yd or so of just dirt mixed with too many bits and pieces of wood/steel/junk (but still 90% dirt) and 30-40 yd or so of old, mostly rotten wood.

The pile has been there for at least 15 yrs (I've been here for 5). I can't see it contaminating anything being 4' lower than is is now that it hasn't already contaminated from sitting on the surface.

In good easy dirt I could probably do it in two days with my BH 90. Around here you couldn't dig a hole that big.

So you could move 500-700 yards od dirt in 2 days with a BH90? Must have a big bucket.
