Ahh -- You can program your tractor to work the field without touching the steering wheel. Can your car drive you to work in this fashion?:D

I saw an ad for a luxo car that parallel parks itself.

German cars have had collision avoidance radar for a while.

But still, GPS driven auto steer is cool...

Cars are appliances. Made to last 10 or 12 years at most. Less than that if you drive on heavily salted the roads. Beyond a dozen years the expenditures needed to keep them going usually isn't worth it. Besides, many of the engines and transmissions are now throw-away....not rebuildable. That said, I've got 3 on the road now that are over 10 years old; but they're all low mileage.

Tractors, on the other hand, can last for 30, 40 or even more years. They practically become a member of the family. They can be passed on to the next generation and rebuilt multiple times. Some care and attention, and they'll always be there for you when the going gets rough. At least that's how it's been historically....no tellin' if these new tractors are the same.

The cars and trucks get taken care of, but I could never get attached to them they way I can to a tractor....wellll, except maybe my old 4WD F150. Maybe it's got something to do with the man-machine bonding that occurs in tough situations.

This is another interesting thread that shows how much we care for our "babies" that are priced up to 15-20k and never mention our cars and trucks that are worth, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50+ thousands of dollars.
last time i looked my "baby" was worth a touch more than that. it makes me money and and down time is bad time. so i will do just about anything to avoid it. and yes cars are appliances. tractors are obsessions

I'll go along with just about everything but this. If you can get the parts you can rebuild it. Plus the OEMs do sell rebuild motors, trannys, etc. Take a 5 year old car to a tranny place and they rebuild it if the insides are not torn up.

But my truck or car does take me to work every day. It'd be a much longer trip on my tractor at 11 mph. And a real long trip to the weekend place. About a 12 hour tractor trip. So I need both. But like most here, my little tractor is a play thing. Life would go on without it...although not near as much fun, :D
