I agree that science can be dangerous. I see that its danger is from accidental circumstance tho -- not systemic. It is science that has made possible the huge human overload on the Earth. Unfortunately science has not yet found a way to make it sustainable. Perhaps those break thrus will happen. Perhaps a biological mutation will wipe us out. Anything will be construed as Gods will by faith, and therefore good. Our best chance there is a total toss up -- Not a system.

I agree, science will either save us or wipe us out, which would you gamble on? I think that's where faith and hope can play a role, I'm not sure what role but science alone with no belief system is kind of empty.
Of course belief systems (I'm not using the R word) are also a double edged sword, we know what trouble they can cause.
Science gave us ICBMs which could pretty much ruin us in a day, but they also act as a deterrent to what could be some ugly conventional wars that could leave the world in a way no-one would want to live in.
I don't agree that the only threats to come out of a laboratory would be accidental. Bio and chemical weapon research is quite deliberate in it's goals, Bio being the scary one like you mentioned.
