I think it would be a better idea to wait until you get there before making that pronouncement...

Hold the slide and rack the frame with you strong hand instead of holding the frame and racking the slide with your weak hand. Try it, it will help.

One can also rack the slide one handed. Either with the weak or strong hand. It ain't hard to do just takes a few practice sessions.

You stated grip strength goes down with age,and it can be difficult to rack the slide..
Are you already to that point ??
How do you know that I haven't loss my grip strength to B able to hold a large revolver due to the recoil ?

You don't have to be old to loose grip strength

Somebody earlier asked why I said it took five steps to get my shotgun ready to fire. It is stored behind my bedroom door which is nearly always open. Because we have grandchildren around it is unloaded. There is a side mount shell holder that has six rounds of buckshot and a stock mounted shell holder that has #4 shot for squirrels. The steps are, 1. pull shell from holder, 2. insert shell in gun, 3. push release behind trigger guard, 4. rack shell into chamber, 5. push safety to fire. The revolver sits in a biometric gun safe on the nightstand and all I do is slide a finger over the eye with one hand while opening the cover with the other and I have a ready to fire weapon in hand.

As a reply to the guy from Canada about how bad things are in the US that everybody needs to carry weapons it really isn't that bad. The problems we have in our area are nearly 90% meth related. Most of the killings are by immigrants. Just had a guy last week kill a relative, his spouse, and their two children of three years and eighteen months. Then he set the house on fire to try and cover his crime.

I am in my sixties and I once showed a couple guys that I had a pistol in my pocket, they left the area. And once I stuck my hand in my pocket and pretended to grip a pistol. The guys approaching me turned and walked away. Both times were at secluded country stores at night when I stopped to get a Coke from a machine. No confrontations were involved. Though my wife and I both have our CCL we seldom carry. It is too big a hassle and in this area in public I have never been concerned. When I do carry it is more for protection against four legged or legless critters than two legged ones.

If I lived in a major metropolitan area it would be different.

Even when I hold the slide in the weak hand and push the gun forward with the strong one, it is difficult.

I can still shoot my 1911 at targets, and a friend's .45 Baby Eagle is about the same. Possible, but not something I can be sure of under stress. Have to readjust my grip and try again sometimes.

For me, handling recoil with a revolver is not nearly as difficult as racking a slide. No big deal, even with .357 in a snubbie.

That would be my question too. I am amazed at the expressed need here to have a gun/revolver, a few seconds away ...just in case.
Now don't get me wrong , I own a few rifles myself for hunting and for varmits on my farm, but they are over in the garage locked up. I have never been in a situation in my 58 years where I would of been able to handle the situation better with a gun. As a Canadian, am I ignorant to the situations that occur in the USA ? There must be a risk versus reward decision you are all making having a revolver where you need to mitigate the risk of making a wrong decision with it, or children having unforeseen access in rare occasions. ...........seriously how many defend situations have you had to make in your time of carry/conceal.......versus how many close calls of gun being accessible to someone who should not .........A serious question , no judgement , just wondering, how do you decide if it is worth it.

I think most people don't want to die in a home invasion or robbery and statistics like this picture are a driving factor of why people feel the need to protect themselves....

Here's a picture of a crime map of my hometown from June-Today, so 6 months.
The area is about 7 miles wide by 5 miles deep.
989 incidents.
Homicide, Breaking and Entering, Robbery, Theft, Theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle, vehicle recovery, sexual offense, assault, and property crime are listed.

Interesting website I got this from. Check it out for your area.

Having a firearm is like keeping a fire extinguisher. You hope you don't ever need it. You probably won't ever need it, but it can be a life saver if you do need it. It serves as a piece of mind.
