This is a neat site. I have the date set to Dec 20, universal time (EST+5 hours) set to solar noon for my location. Notice Maine is about centered in the daylight light band.

The data services page also has a daylight hours calculator and chart for any date 1700-2100 by US state/city location. Maine had 1 minute more daylight on Dec 20, 2014 than it did on Dec. 20, 1776. Duration of Daylight/Darkness Table for One Year
