Long as we're bein' (just a bit) silly, you could swap out the led in yer phone for a laser - when you smell smoke, answer the phone :D

Personally, I hate givin' up seat time; that's what voicemail is for... Steve

My Son uses it. Carries his phone in his shirt pocket. He notices it.

When I'm working the last thing I need is to have someone calling me. As I look around it looks like the world has turned into a one hand work force. You know everytime you bend your elbow your mouth flys open.

I am too busy concentrating on what I am doing WITH the tractor, to worry about gauges.
The governor replaces the tach,,,
if the battery goes dead, get out the voltmeter (from HF!)
I do have an idiot light for temp and engine oil pressure, they catch my attention.

To me, gauges are like texting while driving, something I do not need.

If you want to add "stuff" , install a Murrphy Switch it shuts off the engine when the temp gets too high or the oil pressure gets too low those are the likely causes of catastrophic failure.

My L3240 has a bunch of gauges. Coolant temp is the only one necessary. I have a low oil light, but not a oil pressure gauge. Tachometer and a fuel gauge is nice. I've also got a PTO RPM gauge and a speedometer, but that's only useful to satisfy my curiosity. A hydraulic pressure gauge would be nice, mostly to satisfy my curiosity. It doesn't work exactly like a load cell. You'd have to do some math to figure it out. Even then it would only be accurate at a given height and given distance from the bucket pins.

Tachometer is nice to have but I have driven many hours on tractors that don't have them and had no issue.
Oil pressure is good to be able to look at occasionally to see how the oil pump is performing but a good warning light for low oil is as good or better.
Fuel gauge is good, but I have used with good success, the old stick in the tank on many tractors that didn't have one and never ran out of fuel unlike many TBN users that depended on a malfunctioning gauge and ran out of fuel.

The old 8N Fords had the basics-oil pressure & amp gauge. Everything else was operation by seat of the pants and it has worked for over 75 years. All the latest gadgets and comforts is the reason a pickup truck costs in excess of $50K now and 90% of the add-ons are not necessary for operational comfort but the tech craving society demands them so the rest of us have to pay also.

Well Said Gary , Very Well Said

P.S. My original fuel gauge when out on my tc30 after only a few years , at almost $90 just for the gauge " then " , I replaced with a after market gauge and sensor . Gauge for that lasted about 7 or 8 years and just recently went out . Wife , Son , Neighbors , all want me to fix it ?? My reply is simple , " You want to use the tractor , stop at the tank and put fuel in it " . Maybe it only takes a gallon or 5 gallons , better to stop for a couple of minutes than to hassle running out . :D
