My Cub Z-Force broke deck drive belts time and time again and the dealer said he could'nt find anything wrong. After the third belt I told the dealer I was going to bring it back if it borke another one and it did. I took it back and got a regular steering mower and now it takes forever to mow my yards.I wished I'd never gotten myself in that mess. It's a long story..... I think the Kubota ZD21 will run circles around a Cub. Donny

They had a service advisory for those 44" deck Cub Cadets your dealer should have been aware of. Anyway...your right in assuming the ZD will do better than the Z-Force, but then again a Z-Force isn't commercial grade like the ZD. Might consider a Cub Cadet Commercial Tank though...hope you get what you are looking for either way, good luck.

Neil my friend you must have looked at different Cub Cadet Commercial models then I sell...there is no way a Tank can be considered a toy to a ZD...but we are both salesmen and both have our own thoughts about equipment but I have seen both next to each other and I would have the Tank over the Kubota any day.

I have an older Cub Cadet (pre-MTD) and think it is equal in quality to Kubota. However, I have given several new Cub Cadets as corporate gifts to senior employees and there is no way that I would consider anything from Cub Cadet today to be even close to the quality of the Kubotas. My dealer sells both, I own both, a Cub Tank is certainly a decent ZTR, but it is crude compared to the ZD21. JMO I firmly believe that Cub Cadet is living off its past reputation, a very fine past reputation that has lost its shine.

Okay, I'll restate that... we stock Kubota and Ferris once you get over the $5000 price point. Kubota because their diesel models are cheaper and the transmission is top notch, Ferris because of their independant suspension. Frankly... almost all these companies use Hydro-Gear pumps and Kawaski or Kohler motors -- there is not that much difference. Cub makes some okay value stuff, but between Woods, Grasshopper, Steiner, Cub Cadet, Ferris, Kubota, New Holland (toro), and Bush Hog - all lines that we do sell... I'd take the Kubota.

Bob and Neil I respect your opinions on the matter and don't want to get off topic. I will just say that Cub is not living off their name, they are one of the top OPE companies in the nation right now and make outstanding products. We use to sell Ferris and they were nothing to brag about in my opinion, even with the independent suspension they didn't ride better than a mid-mount GrassHopper (two piece frame, ISO mounted). Anyway, I don't lose sales to Kubota because if I walk someone around a Tank the deal is done. That being said, if the gentleman who started this post had to choose between a diesel Kubota ZD series or a diesel Cub Cadet Commercial Tank I would suggest the Kubota...not a huge fan of the diesel Tank's (thats why we have Grasshopper). Not a huge fan of diesel lawn mowers in general. Anyway, thats about all I have to say on the subject. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've got 227 hours on my ZD-21 PRODeck and it is totally awesome. No problems at all and what a frugal fuel sipper!

Talk about heavy duty - this thing takes the cake! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ouch! Now you've done gone and hurt my feelings. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif All of my mowers are diesel. Last year I did run with one gas powered ZTR and, although it did seem to have reasonable power, it burned over twice as much fuel as my diesel mowers. With gas prices where they are right now, it cost me an additional $12 to $15 each mowing to use the gas model.

I'm not a fan of gasoline lawnmowers, they are noisy fuel inefficent unreliable dogs compared to a quiet fuel efficient no hassle diesel.
