I just reached 100 hrs and brought the B2910 into the garage for the recommended oil change. For the 50 hr service I took it to the dealer and let them do it for $225. The mechanic was very nice and let me watch over his shoulder while he worked and pointed things out along the way. I tried to pay close attention so I could do some of these fluid and filter changes myself in the future.

I must have remembered wrong, b/c I looked up from below and found 2 oil pan drain plugs on either side of the front wheel driveshaft ( I didn't remember him pointing these out but it seemed pretty obvious and they drained oil as expected). What I remember the mechanic pointing out as the oil drain would have been the 3rd oil drain plug for me( seemed like alot of oil drain plugs but that seems to be the norm for these machines ). It drains horizontal to the floor, is up front near the engine (away from the trans which is in the rear) and took a smaller socket. When I took it out, I was surprised to be draining clean hydro fluid!!! I was surprized b\c I thougt I'd be getting just a little left over oil from the back of the oil pan. I only lost about a cup before getting the plug back in.

So my question is - How many hydro drain plugs are there on the B2910? I remember watching two hydro filters, two screens, and more than one hydro drain plugs. I didn't remember any hydro drain plugs up at the front of the tractor. I thought that would make it easy to figure out if I forgot: oil drain(s) at the front under the engine, hydro drains toward the rear by the transmission.

I don't have service manuals etc... Can someone with a b2910 who does their own servicing clarify how many of each I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance,

Leef, you're right about the two engine oil drain plugs on either side of the front driveshaft. Those (and the oil filter) are all. For the hydraulic oil, there are four (in addition to the filters and strainer). I'm guessing from your description that you pulled the "front transmission case" plug, then there's one on the left side at the mid-PTO and one of each side of the rear transmission case. And you don't need the shop manual for this job; your "Operator's Manual" shows all that.

Thanks Bird. I'll crawl under again tonight when I get home and try to identify all 4 with my own eyes. I agree with most everyone else on this forum that fluid and filters are very important for longevity of these tractors.

That reminds me. What about the front axle gear case. I watched the mechanic at the 50 hr service, he didn't check anything there. Is there a dipstick up there? I'll have to look at the operators manual for fluid change recommendations and specifications. So far I've just presumed it's fine, but have read some stories about low levels coming from the factory to new owners who took the trouble to check. I'm not sure how to check the front differential. I'll look tonight.

Leef, my manual only recommends changing the front axle case oil every 300 hours. The odd thing is that the recommended oil is UDT, Super UDT, SAE80 or SAE90 gear oil. We've discussed in the past the fact that there's a lot of difference in the hydraulic oil and the much heavier gear oils. At any rate, being from the old school; accustomed to gear oil in gear cases, I went ahead and changed mine at 50 hours to the gear oil in the belief that the thicker oil would provide better lubrication. Then after some discussions on this forum, and after looking at the service manual and considering the close tolerances in there, I changed it back to UDT, which is what was apparently in it to start with./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif So mine's been changed twice and I just recently rolled over the first 300 hours. It holds 4.7 quarts and you have to pull drain plugs on the front bottom of both front wheel spindles. At any rate, on top of the axle on the right side is a yellow dipstick (looks like a good sized plug - in fact they call it a "filling plug/dipstick"). And unlike a number of posts from BX owners, my tractor came with the proper amount of fluids everywhere when the dealer delivered it (including a full fuel tank). Of course, I checked them all to be sure.
