1* By the way, I think your old F-250 can pull your tractor no problem if you have a truck that has good brakes and is in decent mechanical shape.Chris
1*So do I too.

2*If I can't find what I'm looking for, what are your(s) thoughts on trying to pull my tractor around with my 1972 Ford F250 with 360 motor and automatic transmission? It has less than 70K original miles on it.
I went through it several years ago and did a lot of maintenance: brakes, fluids, carb, hoses, exhaust. Since that time, I don't think it's had over 5K miles put on it total.
3* The truck was a Camper Special and spent most of it's first 15 or so years of it's life with a camper in its bed.
4*Was this good, bad, or indifferent for longevity?
2*I wish i still had my 1971 Ford F 250 in the shape it was in when I got rid of it .
I would be using it to tow my BXs with now.
3*Mine was a Camper Special too.
4*I'd call it being a camper special a plus.

Diamondpilot,
5*Well, I must say that that kind of surprises me about my truck.
6*I've been selling the old girl short, I guess.
5*Not me.
6*YES you have .

Where do you get a rebuilt gasser installed for $1350?

it was a little more for parts than just the $1350. there were some odds and ends not included that were replaced - some gaskets/washers, some sort of sleeves or tubes or something. i can't remember exactly everything, and i didn't do the install myself, but i'm pretty sure it was $1500+ for all the parts for the injector job if i were to go find the paperwork.

as far as engine cost, there's a machine shop in the state here that is under $1000 for a lot of the common engines for ford, chevy, and dodge. i don't have a direct price for their installed pricing, but i'm pretty sure it is $1500-$1600 range for those engines. certainly, some of the newer and more uncommon engines are at a premium, but i was just trying to illustrate a point as to how expensive certain diesel repair parts can be and not pinning it down to the last penny. just saying that a set of injectors and an injector pump could hurt as much as a common small block and transmission. i'm also not going to get into the debate on the quality of local machine shop rebuilds. there have been other threads on it, and your mileage may vary.

I can Buy a crate 350 short block form GM performance parts at the dealer with a 3 year 100,000 mile warrenty on it for GM trucks 73'-86 model year, for that price. Now i would still have to install it but that is a brand new motor not a rebuild!.

Okay

Little bit of a holiday hiatus but am still searching for 'work' dump truck.

Seems like I might now be leaning towards some form of single axle dump truck. Bang for buck (work capable of) can't really be beat.

Couple of questions:

1.) Someone replied that just because a truck has air brakes DOES NOT make it fall under a CDL. Can anyone else confirm or refute this fact?

2.) Gross for one truck I'm considering is 32K pounds. I know this IS CDL territory; however, can I plate it for 26K for slightly less to stay clear of CDL licensing or do you have to plate to the vehicles max?

I know that if I haul over my plate's weight, big fine.

You can't dodge a CDL by registering the truck for less. The CDL goes by the GVWR.
