No title needed here for less than 10 horsepower. I thought that was common and the reason so many outboards have 9.9 HP

In NC, if it's powered - even just a trolling motor - it has to be registered. And sailboats over 14'.

The price of scrap steel makes digging a hole pretty attractive...
You'd never know it going by the price of new.
A few years ago took a whole pickup load to the scrap place, barely got enough to pay for the gas down and back. After that, just put it in the metal pile at the dump, let the town keep the couple dollars it brings.

I'm sure there is an explanation on why buried glass will work up to the surface 60,70 years later!!!
Probably was never buried very deep to begin with. Around here most of it was just dumped in a low spot, over an embankment, etc. and that was it. Over the years it got covered with leaves but that was it.
Scrap metal includes appliances except a possible charge for refrigeration equipment.
Used to be that way here, now all appliances whether they had freon or not have a fee to drop off. Didn't get a straight answer from the dump attendant as to why, mumbled something about new regulations.

In NC you pay a "disposal tax" when you buy a new appliance. Doesn't matter if they're hauling off the old one when the new one is delivered or not.

If you drop off an old appliance at the dump* there's a fee. Doesn't matter if you paid a disposal tax when you bought it.

* Dump = 40 yard dumpsters spotted around the county, manned/open two days a week. Usually each location has one for trash and one each for various recyclables. Leaving recyclables is free, trash costs by weight. There's one landfill in the county where the trash dumpsters get taken when full.

For many years I had an old, derelict pickup truck in the back of the yard that had an old cap on the back. I pulled the engine, transmission and transfer case for another project. But every piece of scrap metal I generated over about 15 years went into the bed of that truck. I was handy for projects if I needed some metal, but mostly it just accumulated until I could shove no more in the bed. Then I pumped up the tires, hauled it out of the back yard, and a scrap yard came and got it and handed me a few hundred bucks.

Funny story about that... there's an outfit around here that goes by:

Doug Buys Junk Cars

He wouldn't buy mine! :ROFLMAO:

But the scrap yard did and came and got it, too. Cut out the middle man. (y)

We have a local recycling place that calls itself Electronics Recycling but in practice they will take anything that has wires. They charge $10 for appliances with refrigerant and for TVs or computer monitors, but everything else is free. I think it helps keep the junk out of the countryside. When I get much steel, the scrapyard is close enough it pays to haul it.

One thing I will say, mother nature is a cold, heartless b!tch that gives zero F's. As a kid in WVa, it was common practice into the early 90s to throw trash, scrap, ect down an embankment. We also played in those heaps, smashing TVs, stick fighting, rolling down the mountain in washing machine tubs, ect. There was more animals living in those heaps. Trees grow right through it. In about 15-25 years, naute completely hides the mess.

Mom's house, from 1949, has another, older home on the property, from 1880s or so. Back, maybe 1996, there was a brick staircase, various metal, ect left. Now, you have to know where to look, and the only sign is a rectangle depression, that is difficult to see with the trees growing through it.

BTW, I should add, yes, it looks like crap, yes, it's trashy, im not condoning it, but im saying nature doesnt care about a washing machine, truck, bed frame, or even a rail road.

Even oils, paint, chemical barrels;

It was standard practice pull a car over a ditch, perpendicular, so you could crawl under to change oil easily, with the added bonus of no oil tray needed, just drain it in the ditch.

A few years back my crew was installing a new drain line from the parking garage at a condo complex, across the lawn and flower beds to the curbside drainage manhole and came across an old car from the 1930's??? buried a couple of feet below the surface. Too difficult to go around so we cut some holes and the new drain line now ran through the car.

Work around any bridge or box culvert, and you'll hit tons of debris, cut off piles, sheet piles, crane cables, crane mats, ect that was pushed just outside of the embankment, and filled over
