How Many of You Use old Macs?

Is there anyone else out there who uses old Macintosh computers besides me? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I currently have a Quadra 605 which was my family's first pc in 1993. I just got an external CD-ROM and Zip drive for it. Also I upgraded the hard drive to 230 Mb. I just thought i would post since I have seen other computer related stuff.

I've got a mac SE that is holding up a shelf in my basement and an Apple IIE that is holding up a heating duct.

I've got a Commodore VIC 20 and an old Timex computer in a box in the basement. It's the box next to the box with my 8 track recorder and old carts from a radio station that no longer exists. They're not holding anything up, though.

My first Mac was actually a LISA. Anybody remember that one?

Actually, it wasn't mine -- it was assigned to me at work so's I could develop software on it to be used on the soon-to-be-relased Macintosh. I thought the OS and interface was pretty slick, so I ordered one of the first Macintoshes. Before it shipped, though, I heard that the second offering was going to include a "Fat Mac". It boasted a whopping 512K of ram!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I managed to change my order, so my first personally-owned Mac was a "fat" one.

I continued to work for Mac development companies, so I got to try out virtually every new model for years. I later bought a Mac Plus, then a Mac II, and eventually a PowerMac 8100. Then I had to get something for my daughter, so we picked up a 6500, and a few years later we stumbled on a free 5260 so we got that for my son.

I gave away the Fat Mac and donated the Mac Plus and the Mac II to the school, but we still have all the old Power Macs, and they're all still up and running. By the time the really cool G3's and G4's came out, I was self-employed and couldn't afford to upgrade, so I'm typing to you right now on the 6500. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Oh -- and we have a PC, too, networked together with all the Macs.

And before any Mac vs PC wars get started -- I'll be leaving both pretty soon. My future is Linux. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I will asssume that there is a reason you "have" to stick with such an outdated dinasour. Only because I can't think of a reason that anybody would "want" to stick with one.
230 MB woouldn't hold a tenth of my digital pictures on file. In fact I just checked, my digital photo file is at 2.7 gig. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We have a couple of MacSEs that run the fish tank screen saver around the building. Just to see how long they will keep running.

The ones that plug in the back? Without the memory pack, was it 1K or 2K, I forget?

16K on a home computer! I think Timex watches have more than 16K on them nowdays. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't have the tape drive or the original box, but we do have Pong in the original box. To think we were once entertained by a ball bouncing back and forth on an old black and white TV! I'd put that on Ebay if we could part with it.
