How many operate the left/right brake pedals independantly?

Well, I tried unlocking my brakes this weekend and tried out using them individually. I was in 4-wheel drive and didn't see much of a benefit. Actually it seemed like something was fighting between the front and the rears when I stepped on one brake or the other while making a sharp turn. Not sure if it would have been different had I been in 2-wheel drive. Because of my hills, I always have it in 4-wheel drive.

the individual brakes will only help in 2wd. the fronts are "pushing" on a sharp turn in 4wd because they are not turning fast enough to cover the additional ground. and if you step on the individual brake, you INCREASE the rear wheel speed of the wheel not being braked(because of the differential)

In my owners manual there are numerous warnings about using the brakes independently and it's limited benefit while in 4WD. "The durability of the axle can be deteriorated if only one brake pedal is depressed while the 4WD is activated". "When driving on a public road or at high speed, never use only one brake pedal, the tractor can roll over". "If the parking brake is applied without the brake pedals interlocked, the braking force is applied to one side only that could result in an accident." There are more but you get the idea....I leave them locked.

My owners manual is filled with warnings and notices about how you can be injured or killed by doing virtually anything with the tractor, all because some dumbass had to sue for doing something stupid. If you followed all those warnings and notices you would never get anything done. :laughing:

Unfortunately that goes for about everything you buy, I don't think my handgun is supposed to be carried loaded, my Rhino and Grizzly operated only on relatively "level" ground by ATV/UTV standards, same for the tractor. It can really be confusing for the new or inexperienced user.

Operator Manuals contain some really valuable information along with a lot of essentially useless stuff to protect against potential lawsuits; problem being which is which.

That's not my experience. I always operate in 4wd (except when on pavement, which is rare) and I find using the steering brakes help a lot. If I don't use them the fronts often try to skid, mostly because I'm turning on grass on fairly steep hills and the tractor just doesn't want to turn up the hill. Applying the right amount of brake keeps the fronts traveling where they are pointed.

I use them independently except when driving on roads. Allows much tighter turns.

When we bought our chipper/shredder, it said in the instruction book "DO NOT PLACE HEAD IN SHREDDER HOPPER".

If it was not for the warning, I would have stuck my head in...

I've never unlatched my pedals on my 1720 and use them together...
On our farm tractors we always used them independently in the fields for turning...

I used them a lot when I had them. They were locked together only for road travel.

I miss them on the BX.
