How many people do you personally know out of work.

I don't know anybody collecting UE, they timed out years ago. I know several folks that are working at very reduced pay. And a lot of folks that retired earlier than they wanted. But then, the auto plant I worked in closed in 08.

I can't think of anyone who wants a job that does not have one. I always have work for people who are not lazy, it is hard for me to get anyone. There are plenty of deadbeats that are on the system, I hear some of them talking sometimes about " looking" for a job after the unemployment runs out. A couple other guys are union construction workers who go see Dr Summeroff about this time every year with back pain. Then call me for side work.....no thank you very much.

I have a nephew that just got out of the military 3 or 4 months ago. He was in for 13 years, so got a little rank and decent paycheck there. Now as a civilian, he can find plenty of a jobs available that want him / his experience, but not one he can support his family on. I feel bad for him to a point, but I also did warn him to get a real skill when he went in - being an office clerk shuffling personnel paperwork for 13 years doesn't just translate right into much of a job on the outside. In order to make the salary he's looking for, he needs some kind of "executive" job, but his experience is more like general secretary to most companies.....I figure he'll keep "looking" 'till his severance package runs dry and then go get whatever's available at that time.......

Only one I know is my BIL, who got fired for his mouth. But he works enough part time to renew his benefits. He got a bit ticked last year when he commented that living off his govt check wasn't too bad and I remarked, " think I'd get a discount if I just made it out to you directly?"

Now that's funny. But unfortunate.

I have three close friends that have not had a steady full time job with benefits in four years. They are all working odd jobs trying to make ends meet the best they can. Two of these have some health issues and being 55 + years in age does not help the job situation at all.

How many do you know and why you think that each individual is not working.

I personally know of no one looking for work and not finding it except for one lady who quit her job and is finding it hard to find another that she wants. This is NOT NORMAL, just a blip on the scope.

They are out there, I'm sure, but just not anyone I know.

Well, to add to the statistics I'm technically unemployed. As in anyone who has asked about a job or tried to find employment in the last month is unemployed.

However I'm also retired and living fine (except for a pain in my toe).

Of the people I interact with they are all either in college (son & daughter, relatives) pursuing advanced degrees partially due to the job slump, or working their butts off.

I guess I need to interact with a different class of people.

When I got out of college in '74 the job market was poor, lot's of returning veterans.
It's going to be poor now, lot's of returning veterans.

I'm going try not to rant, here ... I've been saying for 3 years that I don't know a single person out of 6 that was collecting unemployment and actually looking for work until I realized that 4 of them were working under the table.
