How many spare shear bolts for MF 2360 snowblower?

I very rarely break a shear bolt and I have a gravel drive . My drive does freeze up solid so that helps also . I go into the snow slowly at first so it doesn't put a quick shock on the blower and that seems to work for me . I only broke one last winter and none so far this winter and we get lots of snow here in northern Maine .

Personally I like grade 5 as they shear nice and clean.
Softer bolts elongate B4 they let go and become difficult to drive out plus they mess up the aligned bolt holes.

The one nono is to use undersized bolts as that 4 sure messes the bolt holes.

Like another member almost 10 years ago in this thread, I have just set up my new 2360 snowblower, and like years ago, it comes with no shear bolts, and no specification (in the manual) of those bolts, other than the "..gold-plated (4316035M91) on fan.." etc.

I looked at this thread hoping someone would note the specs of the bolt, possibly even suggest another supplier. I see only one reference to a 1/4-20 size above. Does anyone have the size(s) and an idea of how common these shear bolts are to source from non-MF local suppliers?

Any hardware store will carry them. My snowblower calls for grade 5. Use nylock nuts.

Remove the intact shear bolt. Measure it and record the dimensions, examine the bolt head and learn if the markings (or lack of) reveal the hardness. Then find a local or online source for the generic equivalent.

Diameter, length and hardness are the important items. Thread pitch is unimportant so long as the nuts you buy match the bolts.

I will check the local sources today, and was hoping someone had the bolt sizing ( grade and grooves are known..) so I don't have to take anything apart.

My best local source is closed today, but a Google search turned up Jacks Small Engine, which has them, listed as 5/16"-18X and wants $5.71 each. The auger bolts are $5.65 and the same size. Length for both looks like 2-1/2".

Massey Ferguson 431635M91 SHEAR BOLT 5/16 18 X - Jacks Small Engines

That solves the spec issue. Now to make sure I have some on hand. I'd hate to be left without use of the snowblower for lack of these bolts if there is no local supplier...

Although my driveway is freshly graded and has no foreign objects nor stones to jam and break the bolts, the experience of a few in this thread, and my first season with the snowblower has me wanting to make sure I'm prepared.

Um, I buy them per pound at our farm store. Do you have a tractor supply near by? I go to Bomgarrs here but TSC seeks them by the pound as well.

Nah, I live in a small city, 10K pop, in Canada, and it's either my local "industrial" supplier, or online. Even the MF dealer is hours away. I will contact the dealer and get their pricing on Monday. Or I could follow another old thread on this forum ( https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/parts-repairs/186845-making-your-own-snowblower-shear.html) and make my own.

If getting a reasonable and not-too-expensive source proves difficult, I'd probably make my own. Obviously, I'm hoping to break very few, but I'll want them here when I need them.

I keep forgetting my small engine mechanic. He'll likely have a source for these.
