I know I'm "old school" but I fail to see the big advantage of all the electronically controlled functions on a farm tractor that is submitted to all the dust,vibration & moisture. I'll take a mechanically controlled hyd valve over electronic controlled any day.

tx jim im of the same thinking of you.but with most all new tractors theres no way to get awqay from the computers and electronics on new tractors.

I agree with the tier 4 engines one will get a computer controlled engine but that doesn't mean trans & hyd's have to be electronically controlled. I saw a post the other day pertaining to a JD 6430 with a failed computer to the tune of $2500 + labor.

my 7040 has a computer in it and i hope that it doesnt go out.

My M7040 has a CPU also but I think the engine will run and trans & hyd shuttle will operate with the CPU disconnected. Nothing is mentioned in WSM about CPU in the electrical troubleshooting section.

I understand where you're coming from. Normally, I feel the same way about gadgets. After putting 500 hours on this JD, I still love the convenience of the electro-hydraulic 3PH. It's especially nice when running the renovator plow. Get to the edge of the field, punch the "up" button, turn around and punch the "down" button. Plow goes back to the same level.

The only problem that I've experienced with this tractor has been the hydraulic manifold and pump assembly had to be replaced, but that's mechanical. And it was caused by a faulty casting on the manifold. And, JD did it under warranty.
