How much HP? Any suggestions for make and mode?

I was told by my local MF dealer just whatever you do just stay away from the 26-- series they came out with told me a few customers brought them and 2have allready gotten rid of them couple others are still waiting on parts then said they are doing same and the rest are running around and saying (Wife says I cant say those words). But if the dealer says stay away then I did could'nt afford the 15-- series I wanted I live in NE Texas

The 1500 series you wanted cost more than a 2600? The 2300/2400/2600/1500/1600 are all built by Iseki, not the same as the company that builds the 2600 series.

What about a 3600 series, they are built in Italy, by Carraro.

Keep us posted.

Not sure I dont think they are same but you can see a difference in them but he did not elaborate on it any further except to say people were really having problems with the Hydraulics/tranny after that I stopped asking questions I wound up buying a New Bobcat for under 11k with everything except the backhoe(too much would have to explain it too you know who) during their promotion. I saw about a 3k difference beteen the 2605 and the 1533 2605 being cheaper when I was looking back in July simmalar equipment (loader,AgTire) thats all I needed 4wheels 30hp to pull a 5'rotary cutter

O.K. we did a little shopping today and the financing is pretty good on new tractors, 0% for 60-72 months. So, I am considering a new tractor. The two currently under consideration: Kubota B2320HSD, 23 HP, FEL, 4WD or the New Holland T1510, 30 HP, FEL, 4WD. We will add to either one a 5' finish mower and 58" tiller. I have a free brush hog from a friend. I might stop by the JD and MF dealerships. The financing deal is good to the end of the month. Makes sense, to me, to finance a new rig, with warranty.

What say ye lads?

Howdy!

We just purchased 8 acres in East Texas. I'll finish cut 1 acre, around the house, and till 1/4-1/2 acres for a garden, brush hog the rest as needed. We'll have cattle, so I'll need to move some hay. I've been told to get a front end loader. Used is preferrable, but not mandatory. I can turn a wrench, but repairing/troubleshooting engine troubles is not my best attribute. I'm thinking diesel, and would like some advice on horsepower, implements, make and models.

Thanks,
J.D.

cattle? Then I'm guessing round bales. that means you need a beefy machine.. something int he 45+ hp range.. plus one with some weight. 4wd is nice and so is power stering.. but if you have to you can do without if price is an issue.

I think I'd look for a 3 cyl ford 4XXX or a ford 5XXX or 66XX ( i especially like the 10 10II and 10S series of fords )

If bale handling is a requirement make sure you have the reach to unload bales from trucks if that will be a requirement. Also consider if you want to stack bales on top of each other.:D

Once the bale is on the ground it gets much easier to handle and can be rolled, pushed, placed on a sled or unrolled and handled loosely.:D

Let me clarify cattle; 3-4 four head to raise up and butcher for the meat. I have a good size barn and hope to avoid stakcing hay. A hay dolly makes sense to me at this juncture.

Thanks for the advice,

I think these are too small for what you need to do. Don't buy too small and have to do it all over again. The only way a smaller tractor makes since is if you are certain you won't need to handle heavy round bales, or at least you can do what you need using a 3PH spear/fork.

Over long term, I think you would be making a mistake to buy less than 40 HP. In addition to Kubota, Deere, NH, and MF, I'd look at Kioti, Branson, and Mahindra. These last three will get you into a bigger tractor for less money in most cases, and the front ends and loaders on these can handle heavy loads. The masseys are nice too. (They're all nice).

Except for the finishing mowing, you might want to consider one of the basic utility tractors in 2WD. You'll get more hp and be able to lift just about anything you want for about the same cost as a 40 - 45 HP deluxe model. In this case, get a cheap rider to do the finish mowing. Actually, in all cases I'd be looking for a separate machine, something light and nimble, for finish mowing, which is contrary to what you need for your other tasks.

40-50 HP? We're only talking 8 acres and 3-4 head of cattle.

My bad earlier over-stating the weight on round hay bales. I just know they are heavy and I had to look weight up on google. I agree that rear 3pt bale spear would lift sufficiently if you don't have to unload/load a trailer or stack them up high.

Like I said, I had multiple horses for years and got by without any loader although it would have been much easier to have one.

I say you are looking at about the right size, but for me, I would consider upping it to the Kubota 2620 or similar other brand.

Also, don't forget the snowblower...just kidding.

But the question is.. are you gonna do rounds? squares will get costly for cattle IMHO

Good luck on moving a round with a 23hp tractor.. could probably drag it on a doodle bug.. but that's about it.

forget stacking it or unloading it from a truck. a 4x5 round will weight up to 75% of the average scut / small cut..
