I talked to an experienced dozer man today. It's been raining here, so he was free and clear so we spent about 2 hours walking, talking and looking over my property.
Turns out he knew the man who originally cleared my property way back in the early 2000's. In other words, he created those hillsides shown in the pics in post #57. (Which, by the by, is exactly how I would like my back 20 acres to eventually look like.) This dozer man, now deceased, also did my next door neighbor's property way back in the early 80's. He has a beautiful pasture as well.
In any event, we came up with a plan to get two days done when he can break free. He's currently about 2-3 months behind due to the rains around here. The plan is to clear the dry creek of everything (it's almost all ToH), and then start pushing the rest down to the bottom of the dry creek bed and then lastly creating the trail I want from one end to the other.
We won't be able to do it all at once, but if I can get 2 days from him during the summer, perhaps I can then rent a small dozer and do some more work and maybe finish it up since he'll have done most of the heavy lifting.
The really good news is the man knows his trees, especially the good ones (i.e. oaks, hickory's, maples and cherry's) and the bad trees (i.e. that POS ToH). So I should get rid of the ToH with little or no damage to the good trees.
$100/hour for two days, plus perhaps a one week rental $1600/week plus some tractor bushhog time and I might get it knocked out this year. If not, I'll be well on my way for next year.
