Rear Blade How much rear blade is too much?

I'm a new guy to the tractor arena, and I have a question. It seems as though there is more than a few of you around this site that have sound answers. I just picked up a steal on a 7' Linebach RB. My original intent was to cut 6" off of both sides, due to the fact my tc21d is a 21hp 4' wide machine. Is 7' to wide?

I would not cut it. I would take a smaller bite and if I were to get a larger machine I would have a 7 footer

I agree, don't cut it.

Try it, you may run out of traction, if so, try filling the FEL bucket. If you find you can't run it, sell it and buy a smaller one.

cutting off the width won't make that much difference to the weight of the RB.

Just to give you some idea, I am using a 5ft king kutter 6-way blade on my Yanmar 1401D which is a 16hp tractor and I have no trouble at all moving snow and dirt as long as I don't let it dig in to deep in the dirt.

If the blade allows for multiple positions, including reversing the blade, it could be too wide to clear the rear wheels of the tractor.

There's no way you can cut it or use it the way it is. In the TBN spirit of helping a brother out, I am willing to come by and pick it up so it causes no further duress.

Actually, you may not always be able to push or pull the load a 7' blade can create but more times than not it'll work just fine and I guarantee it won't take long and you're going to find a situation where you catch yourself thinking, "I wish this thing was wider". Congrats on your new bargain!!

I use a 6' blade on my TC18. It works really well for snow removal. If I use it to grade my driveway I run out of power when the blade fills up.

Thank you for your comments and opinions. I just hooked it up and gave it a test run on last weeks frozen snow. It cut and dug fine, Didn't seem to labor the machine too bad. I'll leave it 7' for now until I get some more use out of it.
It will get cut when I forget how wide it is and take out the garage door frame or wifes Jeep.

I have both a 5' and 7' RB for my B 7100 46" wide, 16 HP. I have both sizes because that痴 what came with the tractor. I can spin the 7' 360 degrees if the top link is short. The tractor will pull/push dirt and snow with the 7' just fine, If I dig too deep with either blade I can loose traction. Overall if I was going to buy one today I'd probably buy the 7' for my 16 hp tractor. The only real advantage to the 5' is maneuverability, and perhaps "looks." The 7' blade on a 4' tractor looks pretty large. Unless you need drive through gates that are less then 7' or plan do work in a lot of tight quarters I'd leave it 7' and enjoy.

I have a 6' Howse and a 7' Woods rear blade that I use on my 28 HP Jinma with no problems. The 7' blade is much heavier built and works a little better plus allows for more angle and still cover the tractors track.
