I intend to have a garage put in (5 yrs of carport is enough thank you) and would like some idea of how much room would be needed for pt425 plus attachments. Also, are there any good ideas on storage techniques like hang brush cutter from rafter with chains (just kidding).

Suppose I go nuts and buy (not all at once):

<ul type="square"> [*]brush cutter [*]stump grinder [*]grapple bucket [*]snow blade [*]mini-hoe [*]forks [*]tiller [*]LM bucket [/list]

Would it make sense to have some sturdy shelving to stack some of these so less floor space gets eaten up?

With the quick attach system, that might even work. Certainly shelves will save space, and if you design for your equipment, you might get three high. (The mini-hoe may present a design challenge.)
Suggestion on shelves - remember to unhook the hydraulics before backing away. Otherwise sometimes it's noisy. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm planning on putting an edition on my shed. Of course, I have to buy the tractor first to dig the foundation.

I remember reading a post where someone made a rack for the attachments that you could drive up to, hook up, and then drive away.

Going on two years and most of my attachments are still stored in the yard. I do mow around them every week or two.lol!

How much rusting are you seeing? I have a dethatcher to drag behind my GT235 and I'm convinced that thing qualifies as biodegradable.

I really don't see much difference in rusting between the stuff that's stored outside and what's stored in an unheated shed. When stored outside, I like to keep it off the ground on pallets or something and position it so as not to collect water. The biggest problem I have is convincing the wife that implements make nice lawn ornaments.

No matter how big you build it. you will fil it up and wish you built it bigger. Go as large as you can afford to.

It is impossible to have to much money or to large a shed.

One important point, one shelf high is about all you can lift to with the 422, maybe two with the 425. Check this out when you get yours. Of course one can be put at ground level.

Highridge and Bubba,
I lost the originals, so here ar two remakes. Height is limited with the 422, so I finished up with the mower recessed on 2ins blocks. the PT is on 4ins. The yellow hook hanging from the mini-hoe is to remind me of the 18 ins overhang, when the PT is not at home.
Paul - The piece of 1/4 ins yellow plastic on the upper left corner of the bucket is to help position the blade at level, I cut it same shape as that corner and it just swings quietly away. A piece of tape is just visible on the mini-hoe arm, that is balance point.

I like that!
I'm probably gonna have to do something like that in my new shed. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Here's how I stack my garage...

First, the plow goes up against the back wall.
Then the brush hog goes flat on the floor up to the plow.
The finish mower is set so the front wheels are on top of the brush hog.
Next goes the large bucket.
Inside the large bucket is the small bucket.
Inside the small bucket is the forks and my slicing attachment.
Then the tractor goes in with the lift arms over the buckets.
The whole setup takes up 60" wide by about 16' deep.

I tried shelves, but after ripping them down a few times, I gave up and just stack them this way.

In winter, I put the plow on the tractor and back it into the garage. With the plow on, it takes up 17' instead of 16' due to the loader arms not being up over anything.

NJBill,
I am going to try to build a similar set of shelves for some of my attachments.
How much space did you leave above your attachments to be able to use tilt, to the quick attach and still get them in and out without tearing up the shelves?

Jeff, Sorry for the longwinded reply, remember I have a 422, not quite as much height as yours.
First helf for the LM Bucket 24 ins deep, upper shelf for Forks and Mini-hoe, 36 ins deep.
Height from floor to upper edge of shelf 29 1/2 ins.
From that point to the same point on the top shelf 22 1/2 ins.
Since 2 x 4's are 3 1/2 ins that leaves 26 ins for the Mower and 19 ins for the LM Bucket. My lift and tilt limits are just enough to allow me to insert and secure the adapter plate into either unit.
Lot's of luck, install plenty of good vertical support, and learn to treat the operation as if you were handling a baby, these P T's are powerful monsters.

Thanks for the dimensions.
I am planning on starting on my shelves/Rack this weekend.

Actually, I use a chain host to host my trencher up to a loft in my tool shed. I don't use this attachment much, so I haul it up there and then a neighbor is bound to call and want a trench dug.

A chain on the brush cutter, hum. I will have to give that some thought. You could lift it up with the pt and then attach the chains.

Enjoy the PT425,

Bob Ripley
