How much trust do you put into product reviews and ratings?

I find it interesting that Amazon only publishes the excellent reviews and nothing else. I will say HF publishes them all, good or bad. For me, they are entertaining but hold little value.

I see thousands of bad reviews on Amazon, you don't?

It is so hard to trust any 5 star review, but the 3 stars usually tell what issues are found.
I hate any review that says "I haven't used it yet but..."

You got that right. One needs to dig into the reviews to find any problems. A 5 stars isn't a problem and might have simply opened the products box, than did a review. I'm looking for reviews of Cyclone 200ES welder and find darn few but looks like I'll have to buy it anyway.

Looks like some minor issues and of course one person gave it 1star for warranty and place of manufacture..........
Very few reviews is right. A few video reviews that might help, but very low number of reviews.

Some of the product reviews are so bad that they do appear to have other products mixed in.

One thing that they all of them lack to my knowledge is the ability to ask questions back and forth like we do here.

And the other thing is that most of the reviews are given early in using the product. After a year of use, sometimes shortcomings become more evident or our impressions change after the honeymoon period ends.
I look for consistency in the reviews. If they're all saying the same thing(s), I pay attention.

My company got a bad 1 star review 5 years after I retired and closed. Some guy said he sat in the parking lot for over an hour after pounding on the door and no one was there!

Important to consider the source of the review. Some of the youtube video reviews are shills looking for a cut of the action.

The way some of the pole saw reviews are written on Amazon as well as Home Depot suggest to me that most people are just buying a saw to cut a limb here or there. They are probably happy to cut a few limbs and then put the saw back in the garage to gather dust. They may prefer an electric saw because it's quiet and there's no gas/oil to mix. But they aren't using the saw at the same level of use as me.

Something else that bugs me is the product description of the M18 pole saw + 6ah battery kit I bought on line from Home Depot showed a weight of 12.7 lbs, but the M18 pole saw tool only weight was listed at 12.7 lbs. For some reason, the overall weight including the battery wasn't shown. Best I can tell from the Q & A for the 6ah battery, it weighs an additional 3.4 lbs. Between the weight of the saw at 12.7 plus 3.4 lbs for the battery, that's 16.1 lbs vs the published weight of the Echo gas saw of 15.1 lbs without gas.

edit: The Echo gas saw I mean is the Echo model PPF-225 pole saw.

Sorry I mean to say the M18 pole saw with battery seems to come in at 16.1 lbs compared to the Echo gas pole saw model PPF-225 at 15.1 lbs with no gas best I can determine from the product descriptions on line.

The thing I also don't like about the production description is the battery weight isn't listen in the specifications. You have to look for it in the Q & A.
