I mentioned above that we had a service call scheduled for today for "routine preventive maintenance" as a part of the extended warranty I paid for. Everything has been working fine and I was curious as to just what the "preventive maintenance" entailed. Then this morning, my wife says, "When the service man shows up, tell him I heard a squealing or squeaking noise from the dryer last night." /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Sure enough, on the washer, he just opened everything, looked to see if everything was clean (it was) and ran it through one cycle - no problem. But the dryer was another matter. Apparently the "spindle" on the back of the drum goes out the back through a bushing instead of a bearing. We're guessing that bushing is carbon, since when he took the little cover off, it was full of a dark gray or black powder and he could wiggle that spindle (and the drum) up and down. So he's ordered new parts to be delivered directly here via UPS. He said he has to set it up for 10 days from now, but expects the parts to get here much sooner and to call for an earlier appointment when the parts arrive instead of waiting the 10 days.
