How much weight is good

I have a JD B. I find in the snow that the front end climbs up and the wheeles spin with almost no weight. How many pounds should I add to each side and the front?

Enough to get good traction. Not trying to be a smart @##, but it depends on too many variables. Number one, get front weight, you don't want the front coming up off the ground, PERIOD. Broken pedestal is a sure bet if you do it too much. If you are lifting the front, either your blade is too heavy, or you have enough traction. Start at the front, keep it down, and see how it does then.

In snow and ice, tire chains will probably help more than weight. My 9000 pound W9 will slip and slide around pushing snow without chains on. Ever seen a powerslide on a tractor? On big drifts I have to hit it in road gear, shifting from 4-5 will spin both rear tires...

I have a 64" wide PUMA snowblower hangin on back for weight. I also made a bracket for the front and hung about 160 lbs. there for weight. This weight front and back has helped keep my 26HP CUT tractor for losing traction when using the bucket for plowing snow. I'm going to modify the front bracket this spring to add another 40 lb. I don't think it would hurt to add 200lb. or more to the front.
