How much wood do you burn

/ How much wood do you burn #31
I heat 1700 upper and 1700 lower square feet with a Harmon wood/coal stove though I only burn wood. I dont usually burn unless its going to be below 40 degrees all day or if SWMBO is chilled. My house is in a cold are that gets little sun in the winter and is about 1/4 underground and what I would consider well insulated. R40 in the attic and R20+ in the walls and the below ground section is around R14 and the concrete floor is thermally isolated from the earth with R6 extruded polystyrene foam. The insulation was a great investment. All that to say I will burn between 2-4 cords a year depending on how bad the winter is.

I heat 1800 sqft with a soapstone stove (hearthstone). I try to have 3+ cords dry and ready to burn each year but that's always too much. I've probably burnt 1 1/2 cords this year. My house is a timber frame with structural insulated panels. If I'm not careful I'll have the house over 80 even in the dead of winter. At times I've even had to open a window or two because I'm heading past 85. One thing I started doing a couple of years ago is to put the plastic shrink wrap on the screens during winter. Before I started doing so on the real cold nights frost and ice would build p on the inside corners of the windows. Now they only get cool to the touch.
