Tractor
Antonio Carrero TTR4400
I have a 2300lbs Antonio carrero ttr4400 tractor. Hydro and all the good things. I am going to build a belly dump trailer with axles in the front and back. The weight per yard of gravel is 2835 lbs. How big should i build the trailer when I know that I will be encountering some hills ect. I can put trailer brakes on each alxe of the trailer.

If you can put brakes on both axles that will handle the trailer, I'd say what ever you can pull.

I know I am going to be drilled by the saftey police here but I have a kubota 3400 and regularly tow a trailer in and out of the woods and even 3 miles down the highway (thats where we cut wood) that weighs~2000lbs empty and a full cord of wood on it 3500-4000lbs. Total of between 5500 and 6000 lbs. I have never had a problem pulling or stopping. But no major hills. The biggest ones are on the highway and pavement provides good traction.

I'd say build it as big as you want. (from a manuverability and storage standpoint). If it is too much, don't load it to the max.

The load in the pictures was towed 3 miles down the road and in/out of the woods

That is quite helpful thankyou. I think that a yard and a half should be fine and give about 25-35 metres of coverage at 2 inches in depth.

I've hauled (among many things) about 25 or 30 loads of very wet sheep manure in a Country Mfg. dump cart that is rated for a 2 ton payload with my Kubota B2910 (light tractor) - the load was heaped in the cart and judging from the stress it put on the cart, I'd guess it probably weighed 5000 lbs or more ....

The distance was around 1500' from a neighbor's barn, and the route was essentially flat and all off-highway.

I'm with LD - if you have brakes on the trailer, and it's all off-road, the sky's the limit in terms of the stopping aspect ........ however .....

...... the hydro in your tractor is designed with certain acceptable operating parameters (towing rating being one of them) ..... if you are going to exceed them significantly keep in mind this is likely to stress your tractor's hydro ..... I'd consider installing a fluid cooler for the hydro fluid - preferably one that has an electric fan on it. You can pick them from a variety of places - Summit Racing is one.

The stress on the hydro is my biggest concern as there is enough material that i could be doing loads for days on end. I am going to the praries this weekend and will have a stop by the farm implement dealers there to look at there grain haulers to get some ideas.
