Something like this that is fastened to the backhoe subframe and will work with the stabilizers.

To keep from pulling the tractor backwards maybe consider an anchor such as may be used for a winch.
Working closer to the tractor with the dipper in a more vertical position may also help.

I thought I wanted a hoe for my tractor but went with a new 10K lbs mini ex back in 2004. I've beat the thing so badly ever since and it does the job but I gotta say I don't know why. Some of the stumps I've taken out were huge. I can't imagine beating a tractor that badly (me not you lol).

Good luck, Fred

As much as I don't like the machine moving around, if the stabilizers were pinned down they would have a lot more stress applied to them, the easier they slide the least stress on them. Maybe a quick attach front attachment with some spikes would dig in better. My hope is I can get a good deal on the L45 at the dealership and likely won't have as much about breaking it.

Mini ex would be nice, but then I'd still need another piece of equipment to do the things an excavator can't do. It's nice to be able to take the tractor down the road quickly to help out a neighbor without having to load it on a trailer to get there. I use the front end loader/3ph a fair amount as well, which is a plus for the tractor.

Kyle I forgot about the tractor bucket not being able to cure under & actually that's a good thing the rods bend with the stress being fulling extended. Working closer with the machine for breaking the roots using the bucket curl function so the stress is vertical rather than horizontal would help. Even with my 18,000# backhoe or 20,000# cat excavator on large stumps I preposition many times when necessary to avoid breaking something. You can dig out 90 degrees to the stump follow the larger roots then break them off when the size is practical.Once I think I have all the large roots broke loose I hook a large one and try and twist the stump a bit with a few tugs from one side then the other any roots still holding the dirt will move and show the location so you can deal with it. Then you can hook the stump and pop it out. Good luck with the dealer on a larger machine if not heavier stabilizers are in order.
