How Not to Lime a Field

Lime takes about six months to do anything, so I'm wondering when your neighbor is planning on planting?

I see some folks spreading lime this time of the year. but it is more common to see lime being spread in late summer and fall.

Farming is the most criticized and misunderstood profession on the planet. Suggest everyone derive their sole income from farming operations for 5 consecutive years, and then be entitled to comment upon proper procedures.

Steve,
Could be planning late summer/ early fall winter wheat, planting cover crop now, possibly oats. If fields do not dry soon, rice will be this years crop.

Bet the nesting birds didn't think much of it.
What about the birds and animals that USE TO walk, nest and live where YOUR house and drive way is??

They usually lime here in spring. We used to lime in the fall with poor mans lime, limestone dust. Quarry owner was friend of dad, so he would drop us a load. We had no FEL so we hand shoveled into an old drop spreader. As kids, We hated seeing that load show up.
