How NOT to treat a 2500 D-MAX

I don't think he's over that bad. I hauled our 74 IHC 1700 that had a 16' dump bed and hoist to the salvage yard a few years back. That truck with all 6 tires on it, a full tank of fuel, and before it rotted out as bad as what it was at the end had 11,400 EW on the door. All I had at the time to pull it with was my 2005 Dodge 1500 4x2 4.7V8 6 speed manual trans. I use that truck for work, and with the ladders, truck cap, and tools in it, scales at just under 8,000. My homemade 20' tilt bed trailer weighs 2800. Crossed the scale somewhere over 19,000 lbs combined. Crossed the scale hauling a load of busted up concrete slab with that same truck/trailer at 25,500. Ill admit I was WAY over both times, but I didn't run the main roads, either, and do not tailgate. Heck, anyone know what a Ford 850 with filled rears, chains and a FEL weighs? Pull that all the time.

I have a 861 with the rears filled and cast iron pie weights on the rears. It does not have a FEL. It weighs 5,700#. Tractor Data.com says a 850 weighs 3,400# and according to a chart I have the tires filled add about 600# so that puts it right at 4,000#. Add 800# for the loader, maybe 1,000# and its right at 5,000# max.

Those Pie-Weights I have are heavy. There is something like 12 or so on each rear wheel and I bet they are 40# each for about 1,000# more weight.

I really did think it was lighter than that, because it pulls really nice at 65 down the freeway. I forgot to mention that I have a rear blade that is as old as the tractor (read: HEAVY) and another 600# of die press plates on the back of the blade. Probably makes the whole tractor 62-6,300lb.

That's either a 4700 or 4900 International, probably has a DT466 engine with Allison auto trans. I'd say it weighs at least 10,000#. Diesel engines are a lot heavier than a gasoline engine. I sure wouldn't use a bumper pull trailer, gooseneck is the only way to haul that weight with a pickup. The truck probably doesn't have much problems pulling the load but a dually would have been a much better choice of tow vehicle. The driver's probably making do with what he has but that doesn't make it a wise choice. With all that weight on the rear of the truck and a light front end, it wouldn't take much to start fish-tailing and dump the whole rig.

That is the exact point.

"pulling" the load is never the problem.

It is controlling and stopping the load safely that is the issue.
