How NOT to treat a 2500 D-MAX

Farmboy is right, its not quite that heavy. Its weight is all in the nose as well, so tongue weight is too high and that is why the pickup is sagging.

Knowing that these GM's are sprung a little light, I'm more inclined to say that guy has a trailer problem, less than a truck issue. If he were to distribute the weight better on the trailer, it would be safer and more controllable, however he would probably blow out the trailer tires (looks to be 4 load range E tires). If he had a gooseneck trailer of the proper length, it would be much safer and possibly even legal!

Given his cirumstances...It's the only way to load it I guess, I certainly wouldn't try that reversed...Still think the Dmax is holding it's own pretty well.:)

I've had gravel loads in the back of my truck that produced more squat than that.

It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like there is so much weight on the rear axle that the front is light. I would not want to be anywhere near that guy if he had to make a panic stop.

I guess no one told that guy a new 3500 DRW is only $2000 more than a 2500!

Woowwwy! Hopefully he doesn't have to go very far or past any cops!

The truck's not that heavy. Single axle, no bed - just the cab and engine; basically. I'd put that at no more than 10K, likely even less.

However, the truck is too long though for the trailer. Move it back a foot on the trailer and the squat would be minimal. But... the frame rails on the truck would be back in somebody's face!

Very dangerous!

I've hauled just over 16K with my Dmax (22K GVCW) with a goose-neck trailer. Over gross by about 1,200lbs. Braking and suspension were the biggest concerns. Engine and transmission.... was just another day in the park!

It was light in the front, but I've done far worse...Knowledge of your condition is key...My guess is that this dude made it to the gas station, so he was aware.

I don't think that truck weighs as much as you think. My neighbor's F550 4x4 12' dump truck with 6.5ft sides and canopy (steel dump body) with the built in rear hitch and everything weighs 11,500 with 3/4 tank of fuel, and 500lbs of people plus some misc chains and strap. I know the truck itself is smaller, but that's a lot of stuff. I bet the truck pictured weighs about 11-11,500 or maybe less, definitely wouldn't put it at more than 12k IMHO.

Not quite as bad, still bad but not quite as bad.

I agree Kyle. I have access to two Dump Trucks. One a Ford F-700 and the other a GMC C-60. Both with Marion Beds. The Ford is about 10,500# and the GMC about 9,500#. I weigh them all the time in and out of the gravel pit. Last slip I have is for the GMC. Me and my BIL the truck was 4.96 tons or 9,920# with 2 men in it. Remember, this is dump trucks with heavy beds and hydraulic pumps/systems that have to be near 3,000# alone.

Its only 7,500 or so and that trailer maybe 2,500#.

Its nothing for that truck.

I may be wrong on the weight of that truck. There isnt much out there on the web.

But everything I can find regarding class 6/7 trucks, (this appears to be maybe a freightliner FL60 or FL70) leads me to believe that thw weight is over 12k empty like that.

I am finding weghts anyhwere from 12k to 14.5k.

I believe it is a good bit heavier than 7500lbs though. And I also believe that the trailer is heavier than 2500lbs as well.

Heck, My 05 DRW 3500 cummims weighs 7800lbs empty. I dont think this is 300bs lighter than that.

And my homemade 20' car trailer with MH axles is 2700lbs.

I am still betting it is over 15k. MINIMUM of 3k for trailer and 12k for truck.

Either way, I wouldnt want to be the one behind the wheel towing that.

Yeh, that's just a cab chassis truck that he's hauling. My guess would be 8-9Klb. My 2004 Isuzu NPR stakebed (8 x 14 ft bed) weighs only 7100 lb with me, my truck tools and 3/4 tank of gas on the scales at Petro. Weight distribution seems like a more pressing problem for that guy.

I think the weights you are seeing are with dump beds, flat beds, ect. They really do not weigh what you think. I was surprised also. My 06 F-350 SRW 4x4 is 7,600# empty so I know what you mean. You have to remember these trucks are not 4x4, have simple yet large manual trannys, bare bones cabs, ect. A full blown Semi is only 15,000# . They can be as light as 10,000# for a day cab version.

Remember, trucks like these are made to carry a load. They care more about payload then comfort. Payload is what pays the bills. Making them light is the name of the game because every pound of comfort stuff takes away from the GVWR and in turn the GCWR.
