always in 4wd... using 2wd only on pavement (2 times a year).

If my loader is on my tractor stays in 4WD till the loader is removed.
If I am working on hills the tractor stays in 4WD.
As far as range. I use whatever gear or range that works best for the type of work I am doing at the time.

I guess I'm different. I run in 2WD normally and select 4WD when I need more traction. But my land is almost level so stability on a grade is not an issue. I do have some muddy areas and my rationale is that switching to 4WD will get me out of almost anything I can get into in 2WD, Having said that, I use 4WD any time there is a heavy load on the loader.

Supplemental: I have a different transmission (12x12) but I road travel (2WD, of course) in 4H. I move around the property in 2H. I mow in 1H or sometimes 4M in close quarters. I grade and do loader work in 2M or 3M, depending on the situation. My L range is really SLOW. The only time I recall using L was to pull out a stuck school bus and a stuck (empty) dump truck, and even then, 1M may have worked.

I only put my DS4510 in and out of 2WD occasionally to stop the shift rod tightening up. I also spray into the shift rod tunnel regularly with WD40. Leave it in 4WD.

I find that low is too low! Unless I'm dumping with the loader where I like to have the revs up. 4 gear low I use if it's really bumpy. The ds3510 is geared but dose have a foot peddle which I find I'm always using unless slashing. In Australia some of the Chinese tractor sellers don't recommend constant use of 4WD and warrenty is not covered during loader work and it should only be used while the wheels are slipping.
On the weekend I was slashing on a hill, it was a little wet and I thought I would see what the diference is in two wheel drive. Honestly it felt like a completely different tractor and I consigned myself that for me and my property I'll leave it in 4WD almost always. I do like to disengauge it every now and then just like my 4WD ute to make sure every thing is running ok.

Yes Ive read that sometimes people have had problem with selecting 4wd and 2WD. I've been using the WD40 too, how have you found the DS4510 if I could have stretched the $$ I would have but it was more important for me have the 4 in 1 bucket and slasher. Have you found your hand throttle a little stiff? (Almost sounds like I'm asking a personal question... LOL  )

When the snow depth dictates it is necessary, up and/or down hill with the FEL loaded, and some of the steeper grades whether there's a load on or not are the only routine times.

A lot of time when I'm traversing slight to medium muddy/soft trails I'm trying to push the sides of the ruts from my last trip flat. In 4 WD the power going to the front wheels often cause them to lose side to side tracking and they slide back into the previous rut.

When in 4wd any time you turn the front tires will slipping which is why on hard surfaces it is best to run in 2wd unless really needed. I see the front tires worn early because of all time 4wd. My NH TN55 with auto 4wd the front tires are wearing even with the back. On the DK45 if it looks like I might need the 4wd it is an easy click.

Spending your cash on those implements was a smart move. There are many advantages to going smaller and I still use my 17hp 30 year old Kubota a lot in tight spots and for quick jobs.
The hand throttle being stiff will work for you on those long runs slashing paddocks.
Congratulations on the new tractor

I didn't realize that! I would have thought the brake system would be similar to a car. Why would being in 4WD make a diffence to a wet brake system. I'm not mechanical but I assumed it would be two separate systems one gears and one hydrolic. Thanks I didn't know that! I love this site, the owners hand books are really bad. It wouldn't take Kioti much to set up an online tutorial and online access to service manuals. They coul even have it set up so that you could look up he manual click on the parts you want and it bring up an order form for your closest dealer! Off topic but would be cool!

In 4WD you have 4-wheel engine braking. Unless they've changed things since I bought my DK45, only the rears have brake drums and shoes.
