How often do you sharpen or replace mower blades?

I've been favorably impressed with the heavy duty yellow "gator" mulching blades. I got a 3-blade set for the 50" Cub LT1050 deck at Lowes. They are evidently made of a higher carbon steel than the typical mower blade because they have a more distinct "ting" sound when my wife hits the rocks :) and they have cut well for 1-1/2 seasons without sharpening or re-balancing yet.

I have the same blades.... they have lasted several seasons and been sharpened mucho times. In fact they are getting to the point where I probably need to replace them. Compared to 'stock' blades they have been well worth the extra money.

Well, I never...Never ever have I heard of crayfish burrowing into peoples yards. I have heard a lot about snipe hunts, Sasquatches, and yes even the elusive goat sucker... but crayfish? You have got to be kidding I thought.. BUT there are lots of images on the web, and articles on how to get rid of them... If it is just pulling our collective legs, they are doing a darn good job of it.

To me, all of my life, a crayfish/crawfish/crawday/mudbug/fresh water lobster is a little crustacean that lives in fresh water streams.. they sure as heck do NOT invade your yard..and they do NOT make little mud volcanoes.. sheesh. If you had told me the sun comes up in the west and sets in the east, I would have come closer to believing it. The things you learn here on TNB
Hmmm! ... We have em around our lake. I didnt know what made those little inverted assholes.

After 20 hours of mowing (1/2 season) in the sand the high lift wings are gone and I get new blades. Gophers are the blade killers here.

Regarding those crayfish or little lobsters, we live on the flat ground that's farmed from inch to inch. Every few years we have a wail of an August windstorm and the dried little lobsters/crayfish blow in like tumbleweed. Not a lot of them but I have no idea where they come from. I just don't want them around here.
