How often do you use your tractor

I took delivery of my new 3038E in June of 2009 and now have 550 hours on the odometer.

I've owned my Kioti DK 35 for 17 years. 2157 hours

Bought my 125 in April of 2017. I now have 153 hours on it. Haven't used it much this summer. I have a few projects coming up, so I will probably have 200 hours by the time the 2 year mark rolls around.

Received my tractor late last Fall and have only put on 50 Hours so far. Was puny most of the Spring and Summer but feel better now. Watch out 2019!

Not sure right now how many hours on my tractor but I’m growing older so the FEL, pallet forks, and grapple are my life savers.
Tractor gets used nearly every day if for nothing more than a run to the mailbox. Unit is paid for and lives inside so will probably out last me.

For a new owner, there is a lot of use at first. Doing stuff that has piled up and needs doing and there is the "new toy" syndrome as well.

After a while, the hour meter runs less. Or so I expect.

I waited over 5 years before getting my first tractor (855 JD) this summer, and see the benefits of having it. About the only jobs I could not do in those five years is grading, planting food plots and bush hogging. I needed backhoe work but had that contracted out and my needs for backhoe work are minimal and would never justify the investment.

The previous owner had put less than 40 hrs a year on it and he had 67 acres...I have 20 acres but a longer drive. I estimate I will put 50-70 hours a year on it. So far I have less than $6000 in it, including $2500 in repairs) and I think it was worth it. Being in my late 60's, it helps do things around the place with less manual labor. I figure another $3000 to keep it running for the next 15 years. I have 15 years or so left and although it would be nice to have a $30k new machine to make the work easier, it makes little sense in my situation. In 15 years, the 855 and attachments will be worth about $2500, so I will have spent $6500 - $435/year. A new machine may be worth $15k after 15 years, then add in $1500 to keep it running, and the cost to own would be $16,500 - $1100 a year.

Like most people, I am not comfortable with writing a check for $30k at my age. And I do not want debt so financing is not something I want to do either.

A younger person with greater life expectancy and more funds might be able to justify the investment. Also, I do not have the demands of a livestock owner or farmer where a reliable machine is a concern. If my tractor was out of service for 3 months, it would not be a huge hardship. Many factors weigh into the "economics" of ownership. Or even if ownership makes sense.

That was divided between about 5 different machines. I am not the only operator of any of the machines, so it is hard to figure how many hours I actually get in a year. 500 hours is more like it.

Case in point. 1000 hours/yr on 5 machines. Your post would be so much more informative if you would estimate how many hours per machine, the number of operators, and why you need 5 of them to accomplish your tasks. I cannot imagine anyone spending 500 hours a year on an entry level tractor.

500 hours a year, is about 10 hours a week. I have a 50hp that I expect to put about 250 to 350 a year on. 200 acres, 6 horses, 4 ponies, about 90 rolls of hay a year. If I were retired, it would be a lot more. And I still have a Deere dozer for clearing and stumps as well as my old 2 wd that I plan to sell in the spring. I ran the dozer 4 hours yesterday and the LS 4150 about 8 hours in two days.

I think my L3700SU is 6 or 7 years old. I have a little less than 300 hours on it. Mostly loader work moving mulch and a little bit of BH work pulling small stumps. A year or so ago I put a grapple on it and use it to feed the burn pile in the winter.. I don't like renting things..rather buy them and have them at my disposal when I need them. The hours are not much but the machine gets work done fast. Much faster and easier easier than by hand.
