How often should a Mid Mount (54 inch) be greased. I know you can't over grease but does anyone actually know what the maximum number of hours I can wait. I hate pulling the mower out from under the machine. I guess a second question is does anyone have the trick to hooking up the shaft to the tractor under belly PTO that doesn't include skinned greasy knuckles and require double jointed body parts. Thanks. Bill.

The owners manual says every 10 hrs. I grease mine every other time I mow, because I pressure wash my tractor after every use. Greasing the driveshaft is the hardest zirk for me to reach. My dealer told me to run the blades after washing to remove the water around the pulleys too.

The mower will get easier to get on and off the more you do it. I find it easier to jack up the back of the tractor a bit when reinstalling the MMM. IT is much easier to hook up the PTO shaft with a couple of inches of elevation.

Make sure that both sections of the shaft are clean. The male end on the tractor and the female end on the PTO shaft. I usually give both a squirt of WD40 too. The locking collar thing on the PTO shaft can be a bit of a pain too. I find it easier not to try to hold it back. Slip the PTO shaft on the tractor THEN pull the locking collar back and slide the shaft the rest of the way on.

Have you tried getting multiple grease guns with different hoses and such? I have a half dozen and use them for different places. Short steel tube, long steel tube, short flex tube, long flex tube, side ways adapter, hand squeeze, etc.

I have a BX23 with a 60" mower, I honestly find taking the mower on/off easier than any other part of the machine. I do it on the garage floor and all I do is slide it under the machine, I don't even spin the wheels around, they slide on the concrete just find. The shaft collar holds itself back. I attach the shaft to the machine before any other connection and then it is REALLY simple from there. Sometimes I need to fool with the shaft some and try two or three times before it lines up but I just take my time.

I grease every time I use it. I use the same wheel bearing grease that I put in my boat boat trailer bearings, it is a white grease.

I grease whenever I remove the blades to sharen: min. 1 time/year.

Grease the PTO coupling really well and use finesse, not force when coupling.

AMR, I also put on smooth concrete floor but made a dolly from 1/2"ply and 16 two inch swivel casters. This really makes moving the deck around easy. No wheel pivoting and no wear on the wheels. Ply was cut to exact silhouette of deck skirt.

I try to keep it simple and grease every 10 hrs on the hr meter. I don't drop the MMM to grease it, I leave it mounted.
Recently I noticed the MMM getting louder when I was knocking down a couple acres of pretty high growth. Afterwards I dropped the MMM pulled the blades and cups then counted the "pumps" it took to start squeezing ont of the spindles. It took about 7 more pumps than the normal of 5. Not surprisingly the MMM was back to being very smooth and quiet afterwards.

So what I recommend is to never go over 10 hrs and grease sooner if the MMM "sounds" like it could use it.
