I was 21 and my first car was a 1936 Austin Seven (British made car), purchased for twenty five pounds or about $45 then.

Very cool... I have cousins to your car... 1933 American Austin and 1938 Bantam...

I was 14 years & 9 months old when I had earned enough money to buy a car and pay for insurance. It was a 53 Chevy kind of like this one.

Those older Chevrolets would run forever until the owner got tired of them...

Driving a 53 car in 63 really dated a person... today... a 10 year old car is just broke in.

1971 Ford LTD. 400 cubic inches of 4 barreled road sled. It ran pretty well, and was a very clean straight car. The trunk of that car had more room than any car I have ever seen since. I think you could put about 5 dead guys in it. The fuel tank was vertical above the rear axle, and the trunk had a very deep well in it.

And still have room for the beers.

It is true today so many of my coworkers buy new cars for their kids... especially daughters.

Car of choice is a new Honda Civic...

Nephew is really excited about it... went out to the farm with it today... brother said they were not quite ready for it yet... making a spot in the tractor shed...

My first vehicle was a 1969 Volkswagon beetle. I bought it in 1975 when I was 15 years old. I paid $65 for it and had to borrow my older brother's truck to tow it home. I worked on if for 2 days and got it running. It was an electrical problem.

I bought it to ride in the fields and hunt rabbits with it, but my parents offered to pay the insurance so that I could drive it on the road.

I drove it for a couple years until it started having engine problems. I ended up trading it to a guy I worked with, for an old double barrel 12 ga. LC Smith shotgun. I still have the shotgun, but I bet I have not shot a box of shells through it since I got it.

Some of those old LC Smith shotguns are worth a lot of money. You should have yours appraised.

I have looked in to this several times over the years, and mine is not one of the more valuable models.

I owned the '53 for about 2 years and traded it for a '63 chevy. About 6 months later the new owner of the '53 wrapped it around a tree. I was so mad at him for wrecking my car.

Great thread! My first car was a 1969 Cadillac in 1980 when I was 15. It had a 472 4 barrel and was so big we used it for many hunting trips with 4 or 5 guys.

I used to go 100 mph on bald tires without even thinking about it. Still hard to believe doing that.

My Dad traded an upright freezer for the car to a neighbor.

My 3rd car was a 59 Buick with all kinds of wings on it, with a 400 something V8 and 2 barrel carb.

Every day going to work 20 miles away I drove 5 guys, and everyday coincidentally there was this particular Mustang going to work at same town and leaving from our home town at the same time. I never knew him, and I think he had it in for me, but at the edge of town as soon as we saw each other we would start racing down the long stretches, carefully blowing through country stop signs, and no matter what I could do he always beat me to the place we worked by a mile or so. We must have made this race 50 times with always the same outcome and was embarrassing. Love those Mustangs tail lights.

Then one day me and my buddy went to an automobile junkyard after hours and I found an intake manifold with a 4 barrel carb. and slapped it on my car.

The next day we ran into the same Mustang and gave it a go. But this time he shot out of the hole and was ahead of me by a mile before I could start getting cranked up. After months of trying and with the foot on the floor the whole time I finally passed him about 10 miles down the road on a big long stretch cruising about 125 MPH. We ended up passing him on a small country bridge at top end.

After that I never saw the guy again, but I wanted to. Luckily I didn't because all my tires were bald, but when I was 18 bald tires didn't matter much as long as it got you there, fast.
