Any clean running stream can help the healing process by removing infectious cells and reducing inflammation ! using local honey can reduce allergies and works great as a natural antibiotic , even the common yard dandelion in your front yard can be eaten and medicinally as a liver /kidney /gallbladder /diabetic/inflammation /skin problems /upset stomach and as a natural diuretic so no need to have commercially produced pills to survive just google it and learn you don't have to die if you don't have your meds !

I like the idea of flushing with whiskey both internally and externally!

I just had a bad thought, I have 1 mile of river frontage that is loaded with all sorts of game that would make finding meat easy. Problem is, the frontage is also loaded with copperheads and rattlesnakes. If I was foraging for food with my 22 and got snake bit by one of these 2 species, what is the home remedy for that cure? Ken Sweet

All the Westerns I saw had something about cutting and sucking and whiskey flush.:D

Does that mean an increase in the Beer intake to make the flushing effluent supply more consistent?:D
I personally prefer water over anything with alcohol, but to each their own.

You folks in the US of A really are an angry lot. Calm down, leave your gun in the cabinet. You do know that most of the world considers you, as a country, to be ill-tempered and warmongers. This thread confirms it. You will all blow each other to bits in a very short time.

That is what I posted. It seems to have upset a few folks, and just look at the vitriol that has come out amongst yourselves since then on unrelated matters. There are a very small number of people posting to this thread and yet there are numerous very angry posts. Why? If it is any consolation I think that the English, specificaly English, are actively disliked far more than Americans.

I do not want to lead the thread further off-topic than it already is, so will not reply individually to subsequent posts but in general terms. And why do so many people have to repost the whole of what somebody else has said? We can all read it the first time. The points I was making are that, based on personal experience of living in several countries, numerous, and I mean numerous, Caucasian (ie white) people have made remarks to me that led me to post what I did. I was referring to recent history, definitely post WWII, and not further back. Obviously you could not be classified as warmongers in WWII. Japan attacked you, and then declared war. Very civilised. A few days later, the 11th, Germany and Italy declared war on you. You had to respond with the same declarations. Nobody knows what would have happened if Japan and the Axis Alliance had not done what they did. I suspect Russia would have overrun all of Eastern and Middle Europe, which they just about did anyway, and obtained some countries bordering the southern Mediterranean too, but that is all hypothetical. As we know Russia did not force its language on other countries in USSR so I assume they would not have done so elsewhere.

I have said many times, written occasionally and posted on forums that I, and every single British person I have ever known, have the greatest respect for the memory of those American young men who gave their lives on D-Day. I know many more lives were lost on other occasions, but it saddens me every time I think about the sheer magnitude of the numbers of so many young lives lost. I remember them, perhaps not every day, but often, and especially in the evening:-

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

I learned this in Australia. It is spoken, not recorded, every night at 8 pm in Returned Servicemen's Clubs, and the response is "Lest we forget".

Back on topic - almost. Somebody suggested making your own Soylent Green. Very veggie sounding, but not. I have always wondered, if you eat a vegetarian would you have a white wine, and a red with an omnivore?

Another poster has made the very valid point that posters generally are only saying how prepared they are and not how they are going to provide for themselves after the stockpile has gone. Very few appear to have any plan for a continuing supply of man's basic needs. I have outlined what I propose and one or two others have outlined theirs, but generally, posters are still talking gunpower and medication. You cannot survive on either.

So, as Grumpy keeps asking, how about more input on self-sufficiency plans.

In some ways there is no such thing as self sifficieny, life is a struggle. For all animals life must be taken daily, we can try to prepare for every situation and can be taken off the planet by something as trivial ad a bee sting. I personally think less thought on survival and more thought on enjoying life.besides there a fine line between preparation and paranoia. And at 50 it's hard enough just to get up , much less survive extreme situations. Ever think it may not be worth the struggle?

self-sufficiency plans
Take a look at where you spend the most money at the grocery store and then grow your own.
We spent what we normally do in a month on apples/fruit and started our orchard. I want to get some more cider varities in there. But two varities we did plant were low to no spray goldrush and enterprise. Also have pears, plums, paw-paw, and nectarine.
Then when we were looking at our bill, we planted blueberrys, blackberries, and currants, elderberry, and highbush cranberry.
Next came the nuts hazelnuts, blackwalnut, butternut, and hickory nut. Can store a long time, make flour from them and press them for oil.
Then we planted some oaks, swamp white (good for making baskets) and white oak which is supposed to have a less bitter acorn that you can eat.
Next looked at what we might need for canning, we have a small meyer lemon growing inside, along with a coffee plant, I will start the tea plant this spring.
Next I looked at mushrooms and started to buy some plugs. I have to redo this many didnt take but it was my first time trying. I wont eat a mushroom I didnt plant (i used to go picking with my grandmother but forgot more then I can remember about what to pic).
Then I buy one or two packs of different seeds every year to find what works best in our garden (really only buy from baker creek anymore).
I also am working on redoing some of my woodlands, I cut and replant with better timbervalued trees. We still have a lot of black birch (can use it for syrup along with the sugar maples).
I am also trying to get some forest medicinals going like ginseng and will be trying for goldenseal and cohosh.
I am going to build a smoke house this summer, and a tree house for my kiddo, but I dont think the root cellar will be doable.
I try to learn something new every year, I would like to build a self bow and make my own arrows. I have the perfect tree, (hurrican sandy pushed over a tall apple in our woods) its just I need the time now to work on it. What is nice is that my daughter comes with me on most woodland adventures and has her own spot in the barn for her tools and supplies. When she learns to use a tool she gets to keep it, if she doesnt put it back in the right spot she cant use it until next week.

Ever think it may not be worth the struggle?
Nope.
By choosing to bring another life into this world, I am responsible for her. I will provide and be there until my dieing breath and then I hope my voice stays in her head for a long time.
My grandmother was 92 and taught me a lot about living (she lived through the great depression) and dieing with diginity. She always held her chin up, at a slight angle, and I think it becomes a
sense of Pride that you made it through the tough times and can provide for your family. Its that sense of pride that you can do it for yourself and the mindset that if you can do it yourself you should.
I guess its a kind of like a different work ethic, some people work all day at keeping their jobs some people work at their jobs. (I am not ripping anyone here, just trying to state my reason for doing what we do to be "our own people". or to steal from Seinfeld "masters of our own domain".)
Being prepared doesnt have to be parnoid/prepping for the end. You can make it fun like bushcrafting, and learn to live with out the noise of the modern world.

I haven't followed this thread very closely but couldn't help but notice this post.

If you check your history, you'll find that the "Eurozone" did not consider us warmongers in 1917 and the 1940's.
I remember well May 8, 1945, VE day, because I was in the car with my mother here in the US, looking at the anti aircraft guns on the defense factory where my father worked, when the sirens started screaming and people ran into the streets and I was absolutely terrified and bellering,
I didn't know it was a celebration but even at 5 years old, I knew that when the sirens went off, the enemy bombers were coming and I was supposed to hang blankets over the windows then hide under the bed. It was real and close to home.
By the following week when the newsreels were shown in the theaters, huge crowds were shown all over the world celebrating the US and allies as heroes and liberators not warmongers. Actually instead of warmongers, I think we're a pretty easy going, friendly bunch-------until you cross us!
US and Allied soldiers fought and died to free Europe while Portugal under Salazar and Spain under Franco, sat by and got rich letting Germany use it's ports. It is only by the Grace of God and the allied troops that you can read this history in English, French and Portuguese instead of German.
The Eurozone not only has a short memory on history, but now is baffled why they're going broke as witnessed in Greece, Portugal, Spain etc, ect.

The members on this site are generally a pretty industrious and independent lot who take care of their own, but when more free stuff takers vote, than independent givers vote, we'll be following in the footsteps leading into the same hole Europe is in now.
