Massey 275, came with this old diverter valve on it. Right now I'm just trying to spin a bale wrapper. I ran lines as pictured below and so far I can only get the wrapper to spin one direction. I did some googling and this is what I found.

"Lever back = oil pressure upper back port
Lever center = 3pt
lever front = oil pressure front port
The lower back port seems to be a oil return port."

Found another internet post that said

"Vertical - 3 point hitch

Rear - Double action ram - requires spool valve with zero center.

Forward - single action ram"

Also found this "In the above photo the front hose is “pressure only” ... maybe for a trip bucked type set up... with the selector handle rotated forward pressure is sent up that hose... when the selector is rotated back (either vertical or rearward) that same pressurized oil flows back thru the same hose to the reservoir... "

So given that, can I plumb into the front to spin it the other direction? What about the return port? Or am I best off connecting this to a hydraulic valve?

That is simply a diverter valve, not a control valve. It has only one supply and one return so flow will only be in one direction. You will need to run that flow through a separate valve to change directions.

Thanks, I'm still googling it and figuring out how it works and that seems to be the conclusion that I'm coming to. Any recommendations for a valve type? I'm thinking single spool open center like this?v 1 Spool 10 GPM Chief 220906 DA Hydraulic Valve | Directional Control Valves | Hydraulic Valves | Hydraulics | www.surpluscenter.com

That looks like as good a choice as any.

That one springs back to center when you let go. Is that what you want? Or do you want it to stay in either position it is left in? If so, get one like that one, but with a detent in both directions.

When you order, you don't need the closed center sleeve, but should also get the power beyond sleeve for it at the same time in case you want to run another implement or such.

Does your wrapper need to turn in both directions?
Is your single valve going to be mounted to the tractor or the wrapper?
If mounting to the tractor and possibly being used for other purposes I would think about getting at least a two spool valve with one spool having float and possibly detents on the second.
