Now THAT'S more like it. Instead of 60 grand, they need to make something like that, scaled up a little bit, ACTUALLY street legal, able to do 70mph for 300 miles and less than $10,000.

That is when I would consider an electric car. 4th or 5th car, cheap, beater, use it to run up to the hardware store.

And when you get into an accident, 6 handles pop out and it can also serve as a coffin.
Can't be any worse than a motorcycle, I guess.

The issue is that Tesla flush hidden door handles do not pop out after a catastrophic accident leaving no access to a burning car for any potential rescuer.

OK, I guess that could be worse :eek:

All the Teslas I've seen have windows.

I never would anticipate the door to be unlocked in an accident. I can't tell if you guys are just anti-Tesla or what. I found my tool.

I'm not anti-Tesla, I just think you're underestimating automotive glass.
Good point, though @NorTracNY's suggested tool is larger than it might appear. It is of a series of boulders at a famous closed mine in Southern California;
As the boulders are placed by human's, I am not sure that they qualify as an "erratic".

The rock looks to be at least 3'x3'x3' compared to the objects around it. I'm sure it could break an automotive window, but then again, I'm sure that I couldn't lift it. Clearly, he is a lot stronger than I am.;)

The photo is of the Eagle Mountain mine that has some interesting history, not all of it mineral related, if you are interested in that sort of thing.

All the best,

Peter

I understand that the windows are VERY difficult to break. My point is that I expect the door handle may not work. Even if it does, the door may not easily open.

I don't want to brag, but ...

I used to work up in those mountains in the background, doing exploratory core drilling. Lived in a pickup camper in Desert Center. I think it was in '63.

^This. I was an EMT/firefighter for many years and responded to a lot of wrecks. Very often after a wreck the door simply will not open - it is jammed. Why we carried the Jaws - cut the roof off to get people out of wrecked vehicles.

When I belonged to the car club, one of the members said he had a friend who had restored an old coupe, and installed electric doors with NO mechanical handles. He was a big man, so when his car caught on fire, he couldn't open the doors or exit the window.
