How to attach Cat 2 mower to Cat 3 on John Deere 4630 tractor

I bought a 4630 tractor and LOVE it. It has a ton more power than what I'm used to.

However, as I moved to mowing this year, I find that the flail mower doesn't quite fit. The lift arms don't come together close enough to hook it up (see photo). I know I could probably remove the blocks that reduce movement but I don't want to do that.

My question is, how do I connect this? Is there an adpater? Or, do I have to remove the blocks to get the lift arms narrow enough to hookup?

I don't know about the physical connection but suggest you determing if the mower will handle the horsepower of your new tractor.

The tractor has a 1000 rpm pto. I have a 540 adapter for it and plan to run it slower on the RPMs.

Take the blocks out. Before you raise the 3ph all the way up make sure it doesnt spread the arms back out to stabilize it into the transport position.

Removing the blocks is the easiest way to get the room you need. As per above make sure the lift arms don't spread as you raise the lift arms to the top. You will regret it if they do and your mower is attached.

The tractor is a bit overkill for what you want to do with it.

That's why you can by those size tractors for almost nothing around here. They are just too large for what most people buying tractors nowadays need and as good a tractor as they were they are just not suited for farming anymore.

Not being a smart alleck but those tractors will always be suited for farming by people who are farming for a living , maybe not hobby farming , they have weight that is well suited for plowing and or disking large acreage , they still go for a mint around here for row crop farming.

If I remember correctly some of those models the blocks can be turned and bolted back up making the lift arms come in more, other words they have holes both ways, one way is wider and your picture isn't real clear but it looks like that is how yours are bolted on, check it out and see if those blocks have holes the other way.

We have no idea what size flail the op has. With a well adjusted slip clutch or shear bolt why should this be a problem. Should have no problems bogging down is heavy/tall grass or brush.

BTW - nice tractor.
