The goal is rodent reduction
I've had both red and grey fox through the yard recently.

I want to encourage them to take care of moles, voles, rock squirrels and grays.

Dog food placed in a rotted stump?

Keep coyotes long ways from them.

We encouraged Fox on our acreage a decade ago. I moved several hollow logs to the area near our compost pile and began adding meat scraps to the compost. We now have quite a number of resident Fox, mostly red but a few gray, and the rodent population is significantly lower. The trick is to tempt, but not over feed them. We really like to watch the kits play, and interact with mom.

I set up a game cam near the compost pile and have many good pics & videos

That’s awesome. I’m all for fox and coyotes. Everyone thinks I’m nuts because I have calves on pasture but until I have issues……

Hunters keep them in check

Major deer issues so more than enough for them to eat and foxes keep the stray cats at bay.

Around here, coyotes do not appear to pose any threat to calves. When we moved out here, I asked a longtime local rancher about it. He said that in twenty five years he'd never lost a calf to coyotes, and then proceeded to point out a mountain lion den, and say "nor to mountain lions".

We've only seen foxes twice here, and once it peered in the living room window, so it was a close look. Pretty animals.

The local badgers help out both coyotes and foxes by creating what I call "starter dens" as the badgers go after ground squirrels.

All the best,

Peter

How about some brush piles, pre-made dens...there are plans on the internet.

All the best, Peter
I keep a pile of stumps covered with brush and limbs out by the vernal pool.

Foxes are fine, unless you have chickens, quail, or pheasants being raised on the farm. 12 miles north of my place is a huge pheasant farm. These are raised for the cruise ships.

We have a red fox that frequents our property. He usually goes to check out the chicken coop/run but so far hasn't been able to get in. Hoping "Fort Clucker" continues to live up to its name!

I didn't realize that hollow logs were a thing for them. Do they live in them vs dens dug in the ground? Starting to feel bad about the hollowed-out log I just burned yesterday...

Fox are fairly crafty animals. They will den up in a variety of places that afford shelter.

I happened to have several large hollow logs, which I dragged to the tree line near our compost pile. We call it the fox motel.

How to attract foxes, build a chicken coop?
I do the feral cat rescue thing too. Sure eliminated the rodent problem, period.

Several years ago I had a big mole problem and would seldom see fox, cats, and coyote. Then, we had more families of skunk and the moles are gone.

We, neighbors and I, finally killed out most of the coyotes around this corner of the county. The foxes don't bother much and we still have a few fox hunters with dogs, but they don't kill the fox.
The only problem I have is the Black Vultures. They've ran all the native Turkey Vultures away from my area. Went up to what's left of the old pole barn today with the contractor.
I heard a Black vulture hissing at us, it's got a nest in the old manger. The contractor asked me, "what is that sound"? I told him and he'd never heard one hiss before. The last one that hissed at me got to see my .410 up close.
Indiana DNR imported them because they are voracious eaters; however they are also aggressive and will even peck out a newborn calf if the mother cow hasn't licked it dry yet.

Do vultures feed on moles and voles? Those are the two garden pests I'm hoping the fox will concentrate on.

Never seen any black vultures in the northern part of the state. Hopefully they won't make it up here for a while.
