Ok it snowed again today and I had a chance to try it. I did not feel anything, no resistance at all when I pressed on the lock pedal. Tell me this, if both wheels turn while I press the pedal, does that mean it is working? It did that, and sometimes both wheels would turn and other time only one wheel would turn. So it is working or not???
/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Before I call my dealer I want to make sure because he is 90 minutes away.

The other question I have is with it in 4WD I have no problem getting around, so if for some reason it is broken, will I mess things up if I just never use it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks

Tom,

More than likely it is working. I don't know how you tried it but the best way is to have your brakes separated so you can brake only one wheel. You don't need snow for this but should do it on something slippery but if hard surface that is ok also. Just hit one of the brakes while going straight forward, take notice the tractor locks one wheel while the other tends to try and keep driving. You should notice that tractor kind of twisting to one side. Then while moving lock in the differential and then hit just one of the brakes again. If the tractor tries to keep going straight pulls down the RPM's that means your locked in. I really never use my differential. I get so much more out of the 4 wheel drive. Also my tractor automatically goes into 4 wheel for me based on slippage.

Hi,

I used mydiff lock today. I was in a situation where my one rear tire was turning and the other was not. I was not moving, because it was a slope and the fronts were spinning too.

When I ergaged the diff lock, both tires started turning together and I moved forward. I one time felt it engage and another time I did not feel it engage but it did.

If you mean that one tire was slipping and the tractor was not moving, and then you pushed the diff lock pedal, and then both tires started turning, whether the tractor moved or both tires slipped, then it is working.

Sounds like yours is working...

Bill,

Just went out to clear what the plow left at the end of the driveway. Tried it again, when one tire was spinning, step on the pedel and they both spin, hope you are correct! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks

It does sound like it is working just fine...

I use mine pretty often (even in 4WD), as I'm on steep hills, and one thing I've found is that I have to really make sure to step hard on the pedal to get it engaged. Sometimes I'll put my foot on it and the pedal will seem like it is down and the lock won't engage. When that happens I will stand up on it harder and then the lock kicks in.

My guess is that under load there are syncros that prevent it from engaging until you push them together hard. But I'm certainly no expert...

Chris,

I believe you are right. But what I do with mine is to let off on the RPM's, engage it and then hit the RPM's again. The other thing I do is if I think I will need it going up the hill, I just engage it before the hill or the mud hole.
