How to clean deisel injectors?

I have a late 90's Kubota b2400 that is hard starting. I believe the injectors need cleaned. How can I clean them myself?

1.) Use cleaning fuel treatment first.
2.) If the starting issue doesn't improve check compression before you pull injectors.
3.) If you pull injectors out take them to diesel shop for service. If you disassemble them do not mix internals. Make sure you put them together from the same parts. The parts are matched.

You could try putting some diesel inj cleaner in fuel and operating engine for a few hrs. Are glow plugs functioning properly? I think injectors must be disassembled to manually clean them.

I wouldn't recommend even trying to disassemble yourself. Tolerances are super-precise. My dad liked to tell a story about a shop teacher or mechanic he knew that demonstrated this to the students by taking one apart, cleaning the fuel off and then TOUCHING the internal piston/plunger with bare fingers. The slight moisture/corrosion caused by his fingerprints prevented the plunger from going back into its bore.

I'm wondering if my valves are out of adjustment. When I crank it over I get black smoke but it just doesn't want to kick over. Glow plugs are all working. I need to crank and crank until it starts to act like it wants to start then after a couple more try's it fires up.

I'm not sure how to check the valve adjustment. Need to see if I can dig up info. It's a 3 cylinder so shouldn't be too difficult.

Is there a decompress er on this model? If so check and make sure it is not stuck open just a bit,this could cause
hard starting.

Have the nozzles need to be rebuilt, spray pattern goes bad and then they get hard to start, been down same road.

How many hours are on the tractor? My old B7100 has 1200 hours and fires right up. The L2550 meter showed 1890, but the meter didn't work and it started fine. The diesel lawn mower reads over 3,000 and it fires right up. My old case 235 had 1000 hours and easily started with no glow plugs, but all the Kubota's don't like to start without glow plugs.

I'm not so sure your valves would be out enough to cause any starting problems , Good battery? turning it over at a good clip? Run some sea foam threw it and see if that helps you can also put some in your oil.

If I remember correctly those are Bosch nozzles. They stick the fuel spray pattern gets bad, gets hard to start blows black smoke. Eventually, it will get harder to start, then begin blowing white smoke. Glow plugs won't help. Those nozzles are famous for it. Remove them and have injection shop test them. Not too hard to remove I made a deep well socket just for that nozzle, they are real common nozzle. Hardest part is breaking the injection line loose use a good wrench. last thing you want to do is round that nut over. You may also have to hold the nozzle body from turning. When you remove them there is a brass washer, it may or may not come out with the nozzle. So, you might have to use a o ring pick to get the brass washer out. Those have to be replaced. The injection shop will have those and the rubber/cloth fuel return line. Chances are you will have to cut that. I would not count on injector cleaner working and i don't believe in the stuff. It is a pintle style nozzle, and real susceptible to heat, over time the start to stick. Why they all start doing it at once never been able to figure out for sure. I have seen it where if a machine gets real hot to the point of almost over heating, then they shut machine down real fast. had them do it. You replace the customer's water pump he starts going nuts because his water pump failed got hot and now that that is fixed it is blowing all kinds of black smoke and hard to start. then you tell him his nozzles need to be rebuilt, sometimes its a tuff sell.

new injectors are cheap now. have an injection shop verify the proper pop pressure and install.
What is the voltage across the starter while cranking?
