Have 2 new pups, roughly 3 months old. Getting large for the 3 foot diamater enclosure we had, so we recently blockaded part of unfinished basement so they now have 16 by 16 foot area to stay at night.

Seems one of them fooled us last night while raining, and didn't fully relieve himself... so this morning, I go to let them out and I have a 1/2 dried puddle that seems to be soaked into the unprotected concrete. (in room that will soon be finished)

The "aroma" is in the air, and I'm fearful that it will stay, only to come out on days of dampness.

Any secrets on getting that all the way out of the concrete floor? (smell included)

I searched archives... found nothing on bladder control. Maybe I ought to pin some pampers on them? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've had luck with vinegar/water solutions - it helps pick up and dilute the uric acid in the urine. Vinegar also works in the laundry (with detergent) for sweat-stained clothes/bedding for the same reason.

Richard,

We use vinegar/water as well as a product called "Natures
Miracle". We get the stuff at pet stores though it might be
at a hardware store.

"Natures Miracle" is very good at removing stains as well as
smells. When one of our dogs died a few years ago she
literally had pooped, puked, and peed over almost every inch
of the living room carpet and in the ktichen. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I opened
the front door and the smell was like someone wacking me
in the face.

Used a wet/dry vac to clean up everything. Got a carpet
shampooer and filled it up with gallons of hot water/vinegar
and cleaned for three HOURS. Then put down a couple of
gallons of the "Natures Miracle" I thought we would have to
take out the carpet but there is no smell.

For simple messes we clean things up and put down the
"Natures Miracle." Put a small towel over the spot and let the
fluid work.

Hope this helps,
Dan McCarty

I have also used "Natures Miracle" with good results. This product uses an active enzyme prouct that will actually "eat" the bacteria that creates the odor in the first place. These products work very well in the condition that you have. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My rentals end up with repeatedly soaked carpets on a regular basis. Pets and kids. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif It plays he11 on the wooden subfloors. I just soak 'em down with straight bleach and scrub it in and it seems to take care of the problem.

We scrub the subfloors, that is. I chunk the carpet when it gets that bad.

There's a product called 'Kilz' that is great for sealing up such problems. You can buy it by the quart or gallon at about any paint supply house and probably K-Mart (if you can find one still open) or similar places. The manufacturer is a company called 'Binz', I believe.

Just paint it over the affected area and go from there. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kilz is great stuff. Company is Masterchem Industries according to the can I have. Kilz comes in two flavors, Oil base or latex, and by the gallon, quart, or two kinds of spray cans. One is a regular spray can and one shoots up for ceiling spots. Ultimately, the oil base stuff covers "bad" stains better, but the latex works fine on "normal" stains and is easier to use. I've used all the products with good results as with all real estate we're constantly painting over one stain or another. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
